VII. Procedure
1. Drafting the Pattern:
 Begin by drafting a pattern for your athletic shorts. You can use an existing pair of shorts as a reference or
find a pattern online.
 Trace the pattern onto paper and make any necessary adjustments for size and style.
2. Choosing Fabric:
 Select a suitable fabric for athletic shorts, such as moisture-wicking or stretchy materials like spandex or
polyester.
3. Cutting Fabric:
 Lay the fabric flat on a cutting surface.
 Pin the pattern pieces onto the fabric, ensuring they are aligned with the fabric grain.
 Carefully cut out the fabric pieces following the pattern.
4. Assembling the Shorts:
 Match the fabric pieces right sides together.
 Pin and stitch the side seams, crotch seams, and inseams of the shorts.
 Install an elastic waistband or drawstring if your design requires it.
5. Hemming:
 Fold and pin the raw edges of the shorts to create hems at the bottom of each leg.
 Stitch the hems in place.
6. Adding Pockets (Optional):
 If your design includes pockets, attach them to the shorts at this stage.
7. Pressing the Fabric:
 Carefully press the finished shorts using an iron on an appropriate heat setting for your fabric. This will give
your shorts a neat appearance.
 Be cautious not to melt or damage the fabric while pressing.
8. Quality Check:
 Inspect your athletic shorts for any loose threads or stitching issues.
 Make any necessary corrections.
9. Try On and Adjust (Optional):
 Have someone try on the shorts to ensure they fit well.
 Make any final adjustments to the fit if needed.
10. Final Pressing:
 Give the shorts one last press to ensure all seams and hems are crisp and well-set.
11. Finish and Wear:
 Trim any excess threads.
 Your athletic shorts are now ready to wear or for further customization, such as adding logos or designs if
desired.
