Objective: This course is to provide conceptual knowledge of Financial Accounting and its application in
business.

Course outcomes
At the end of the course students are able to:
1. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding about the fundamental concepts, principles
and processes of accounting and its application.
2. Recognize and appreciate the importance of accounting standards and its convergence with IFRS.
3. Have an understanding of depreciation, valuation etc.
4. Develop required skill required in preparing Income Statement and Balance Sheet.

Unit I INTRODUCTION: Nature of accounting; Users of accounting information; Double


entry book keeping system – Basic accounting equation. Bases of accounting: cash
basis and accrual basis. Indian Accounting Standard and IFRS. Generally Accepted
Accounting Procedures (GAAP). Accounting Cycle: Journal, Ledger and preparation of
Trial Balance. Rectification of Errors and Bank Reconciliation Statements

UNIT II ACCOUNTING FOR DEPRECIATION, RESERVES AND PROVISIONS: Concept of


Depreciation, Depletion and Amortisation, Objective and Methods of Depreciation-
Straight line, Written Down Value (WDV), Disposal of depreciable assets; change in
estimate and method of charging depreciation. Accounting for depreciation: Asset-
depreciation, Asset-provision. Reserves and provisions: Meaning; Objective;
Significance, Reserves Vs Provision, Types & Accounting treatment.

Unit III FINAL ACCOUNTS OF PROFIT AND NON-PROFIT CONCERNS: Preparation of


financial statements: of sole proprietorship business entities from a trial balance –
Manufacturing A/C, Trading, P/L A/c and Balance Sheet. Treatment of adjustments in
final accounts. Preparations of financial statements of a non-profit concern.

Unit IV ACCOUNTING FOR PARTNERSHIP FIRMS: Fundamentals of Partnership accounts,


admission, retirement, death of a partner. Dissolution of a partnership firm including
insolvency of partnership firms, Gradual realization of assets and piecemeal payment
of liabilities.

Objective: This course aims to provide basic numerical ability for business decisions.

Course Outcomes:
After studying this course, the students will be able to

Unit I Differentiation & its Applications: Elementary functions; Basic concept of limit &
continuity; Differentiation; Differentiation of explicit function and implicit functions;
Higher derivatives; maxima and minima with its applications in business (Marginal
Analysis, Profit maximization etc.).

Unit II Integration & its Applications: Standard forms; Methods of integration- by


substitution, by parts, by partial fraction; Definite integration, applications of definite
integral in finding areas in simple cases; Applications of definite integral in business
(consumer’s and producer’s surplus).

Unit III Matrices & Determinants: Definition and types of matrices, Algebra of matrices,
Basic concept and properties of the determinant and its calculation up to third order,
Adjoint of the matrix, elementary row and column operations, inverse of a matrix.

Unit 1V Applications of Matrices & Determinants: Applications of matrices in Business;


Solution of a system of linear equations (having unique solution and involving not
more than three variables) using Inversion method and Crammer’s Rule; Leontief

Cooperative banking in India, Credit Creation process, Determination of money
supply and total bank credit. RBI – its functions, features, instruments of
monetary control.

UNIT-III DEVELOPMENTAL BANKS AND OTHER BANKING FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS:


Main features, unregulated credit market in India-main features. Problem
between the government and the commercial sector. Inter Sectoral & inter
regional problems. Problems between Large and Small borrowers.

UNIT-IV Regulators of Financial System: Regulations in Financial System, Role and need
of Regulations in Financial System-RBI, SEBI, IRDA, RBI’s New Monetary Policy
Committee, Recent Developments in Indian Financial System.

manage stress.

Unit II DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY: Causal factors related to depression and anxiety,
Depressed mood, Depressive disorders, symptomology, and environmental influences,
Anxiety, Anxiety disorders, symptomology, and environmental influences, Provision
of resources related to behavioral and cognitive outcomes related to depression and
anxiety.

Unit III STRESS MANAGEMENT AS A LIFE-SKILL: Physical well-being: Exercise,


Breathing, Nutrition, Psychological well-being: Self-control, understanding
personality type and moderating response, cognitive restructuring, social connect,
positive self-talk, Spiritual well-being: Meditation, Yoga and other relaxation
techniques, Stress associated anger and fear and dealing with them, Work-life balance.

Unit IV TIME MANAGEMENT A STRESS MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUE:


Relationship between time management and stress management, Procrastination and
stress, Tools for time management: prioritising, scheduling tasks, SMART goals,
delegation, learning to say ‘No’

Unit I Mathematics of Finance: Different types of interests; compounding and discounting of a sum
using different types of rates; Basic concept of annuity and its types; future and present values of
annuities using different types of rates of interests including the case of continuous compounding;
valuation of simple loans and debentures; sinking funds

Unit II Liner Programming: Formulation of linear programming problems; Methods of solving LPP,
Graphical method of solution; cases of unique, multiple solutions, unbounded solution and
redundant constraints, Transportation problems, Assignment problems
Simplex Method: Solution of linear programming problems using simplex method up to three
variables including cases of mixed constraints.

Unit III Differential Equations I: Ordinary differential equations of first order and first degree; solution of
differential equations by method of separation of variables.

Unit 1V: Differential Equations II: Linear differential equations and their solutions; Homogeneous
differential equations and their solutions, applications in business.

Basic Competitive Model; Prices, Property Rights and Profits: Incentives and
Information, Rationing; Opportunity Sets; Economic Systems; Reading and Working
with Graphs.
UNIT-II SUPPLY AND DEMAND: How markets work, Markets and Welfare Markets and
Competition; Determinants of individual demand/supply, Demand/Supply schedule
and demand/supply curve, Market versus individual demand/supply, shifts in the
demand/supply curve, Demand and Supply together, How Prices allocate resources.
Elasticity and its application; Controls on Prices; Taxes and the Costs of Taxation;
Consumer, Producers and the Efficiency of the Markets.
UNIT- III THE HOUSEHOLDS: The consumption decisions -- budget constraints, consumption
and income/price changes, demand for all other goods and price changes,
Description of preferences [Representing preferences with indifference curves.
Properties of Indifference curves], Consumers' optimum choice, income and
substitution effects. The investment decision -- investment alternatives for a
household, Desirable attributes of investments Labor Supply and Savings decision --
Choice between leisure and consumption.
UNIT-IV THE FIRM AND MARKET STRUCTURE: Perfect Market Structure: Pure Competition
and Perfect Competition; Imperfect Market Structure- Monopoly and antitrust policy,
government policies towards competition. Imperfect information in the product
market--The information problem, The market for lemons and adverse selection, the
incentive problem, the search problem, advertising, the importance of imperfect
information, government and information.

Objective: This course is to equip the students with knowledge of the basics of Direct Tax
(Income Tax Act 1961) and its implications.
Course outcomes
At the end of the course students are able to:
1. Impart knowledge on the basic principles of direct tax laws.
2. Equip students about the computation of income and taxation under the heads of Salaries and
House Property.
3. Gain knowledge about Tax Administration and its assessing authorities.

UNIT - I Basic Concepts: Assessment year, Previous year, Person, Assessee, Deemed
Assessee, Assessee in default, Income, Gross total income, Agricultural Income and
Non-agricultural income, Casual income, Difference between exemption and
deduction, Capital and revenue receipts, Capital and revenue expenditure.
Residential status and its effect on tax incidence: Relevance, determination of
residential status of an individual, HUF & Company, Incidence of tax.
UNIT - II Income under the Head Salaries including retirement (Sec. 15-17): “Salaries”
and its computation, concept of salaries, basis of charge (U/S-15), Scope of salary,
different forms of salary – How Taxed: Basic salary, Dearness Allowance, Advance
Salary, Arrears, Leave encashment, salary of partner, fees & commission, Bonus,
Gratuity, Pension, Annuity, Retrenchment compensation, VRS, Remuneration for
extra duties, Profits in lieu of salary; Provident fund and its tax treatment;
Deduction U/S 16 and Deduction U/S 80C.
UNIT - III Income under the Head House Property (H.P): [Sec. 22-27]: Concept of house
property, Basis of Charge; Rental Value: fair rental value, real/actual rental value
(RRV), municipal rental value (MRV), expected rental value (ERV), Standard Rental
(SR) value (SRV); Exempted income of H.Ps; Definition of Annual value- U/S (23);
determination of (a) actual rent, & (b) expected, when (i) SR is not given (ii) SR is
given- Sec.(23), Computation of Annual value: (a) Let out/deemed to be let out H.Ps
(b) Self occupied H.Ps; deduction-U/S-(24): Computation of income of H.Ps in case of

UNIT – IV Income under the head Capital Gain [Sec. 45-55]: Basis of charges;
Capital assets: financial & nonfinancial assets- short term & long term; Transfer of
capital assets; short term or long term capital gain or loss; deductible expenses:
transfer cost, cost of acquisition & improvement cost; Computation of Capital gain
including special cases; Rates of taxes on capital gains U/S-111A, 112.
Income from other sources [Sec.56-58]: Basis of charges; Exempted income;
provision of deductible & non-deductible expenses; Computation of total income;
Rates of taxes.
