EXPLICIT- clearly stated so there is no room for confusion or questions. It refers to the literal or obvious meaning
of a text or statement. It is what is directly stated by the author or speaker.
IMPLICIT– implied or suggested, but not clearly stated. It refers to the underlying or suggested meaning of a text
or statement. It is not directly stated, but rather inferred by the reader or listener through context, tone, and
literary devices.

PERSONIFICATION is a figure of speech that is used to attribute human characteristics to something that is
not human. It can also be used to personify an abstract quality. Giving human features or characteristics to
non-living things.
HYPERBOLE is a figure of speech in which an author or speaker purposely and obviously exaggerates to an
extreme. It is used for emphasis or as a way of making a description more creative and humorous. It is an
excessive overstatement or conscious exaggeration.
IMAGERY - is a literary device used in poetry, novels, and other writing that uses vivid description that
appeals to a readers’ senses to create an image or idea in their head. Through language, imagery does not
only paint a picture, but aims to portray the sensational and emotional experience within text.
METAPHOR - is a figure of speech that directly compares one thing to another for rhetorical effect
IDIOM- A sentence or phrase that has a different meaning than its literal meaning.
SIMILE -A comparison of two or more things using like or as.
