Main Characters:

Gene
(voiced by T.J Miller): Gene is the main character, is an emoji that represents
the “Meh” expression but has the unique ability to display a wide range of
emotions. Gene, unlike the other emojis in the bustling digital city of
Textopolis, struggles with his singular expression and yearns to be like all
the other emojis who only have one emotion.

Hi-5
(voiced by James Corden): A hand emoji who used to be popular. Hi-5 is a
peach hi-5 emoji, who works in the cube. He wears a blue bandage on his
index finger. He has blue eyes. He’s a clown and enjoys making jokes. Hi-
5, a once-popular hand emoji, find himself on the outskirts of popularity and
seeks to reclaim his former status. Hi-5 joins Gene and Jailbreak on their
mission, hoping to regain his former glory and become the center of
attention once again. Hi-5 brings a sense of humor and lightheartedness to the group, providing
comic relief amidst the challenges they face.

Jailbreak
(voiced by Anna Faris): A hacker emoji who helps Gene on his journey.
Jailbreak, who is really Princess Linda, is the deuteragonist of The Emoji
Movie. She helps Gene to fix his own mistake by entering Firebox. She is
only emoji who wears a clothes than no other emojis wear. She doesn’t
know how to dance while entering the Just Dance App. Jailbreak serves as
a strong, independent companion who provides guidance and support to
Gene throughout their adventure.

Smiler
(voiced by Maya Rudolph): The leader of Textopolis. Smiler is the main
antagonist of Sony Pictures Animation’s 17th feature film The Emoji Movie,
Which is widely considered to be one of the worst animated movies ever
made. She serves as the Supervisor of the Emojis Corp until the events of
the film. Smiler is a smiley emoji who is determined to keep everything in
Textopolis perfect and inline with societal expectations. She firmly believes
that emojis should only display their assigned emotions and goes to great lengths to ensure
conformity. Smiler’s relentless pursuit of perfection creates conflict and poses a significant
obstacles for Gene and his friends.
Setting:
The Emoji Movie takes place in the vibrant city of Textopolis, a bustling metropolis located within
the confines of a smartphone. The city is home to countless emojis, each with their unique
personality and role to play in the digital world.

Within Textopolis, every emoji has a specific function and must always display the same
expression whenever selected by the user. Whether it’s the smiling face, the heart eyes, or the
thumbs up, each emoji has a critical role to play in the communication between smartphone users.

The city itself is a vivid and colorful landscape, with towering skycrappers and bustling streets that
are always teeming with activity. The buildings are designed to resemble the apps of the
smartphobne, with icons and logos adorning the facades. The streets are lined with phone cables
and chargers, and the sound of buzzing notification fills the air.

As the story unfolds, the audience is introduced to the different corners of the smartphone universe.
From the messeging app, where emojis are selected and sent to friends, to the music app, where
emoji characters dance and sing to popular tunes, the movie offers a glimpse into the many uses
of the smartphone.

The setting itself serves as a reminder of the ubiquity of technology in our daily lives. It highlights
the importance of communication and the ways and which digital tools have made it easier for
people to connect with one another. The city of Textopolis is a statement to the power of technology

Synopsis:
Set in the digital world of Textopolis, the Emoji Movie follows the journey of Gene, an emoji who
is classified as a “meh” expression but possesess the ability to make a multitude of different facial
expressions. However, this uniqueness becomes a source of insecurity for Gene, as he struggles to
fit in with the other emojis who only have one assigned emotion.

When a text message is sent by the phone’s user, Gene’s multiple expressions accidentally cause
chaos in the messeging app, leading to a potential disaster. Determined to fix his “malfunction”
and become a “normal” emoji, Genr sets out on a quest with his newfound friends, Hi-5 and
Jailbreak.

As the trio embarks on their adventure through the vast digital landscape of the smartphone, they
encounter various apps, each presenting its unique set of challenges and obstacles. From the fast-
paced racing to the mysterious and dangerous firewall, their journey is filled with excitement and
