Question 1 Leveling measurement (40%)

Book the leveling data shown in the Table below using Rise and Fall method.
i. Determine the elevations of points (A, B, C, D, E, F and G), perform all
the necessary checks.
ii. Determine the hight difference between the top of the diving
platform and base of the pool at C?

Question 2 Linear measurements (40%)

An engineer wanted to measure horizontal distances between 2 points
(A and D) as shown in side view figure below. The distances are
measured with a steel tape that has standard tension 50 N; nominal
length 30.000 m; standard temperature 20o C; cross-sectional area 2
mm2; and tape weight 0.2N/m. Tape actual length 30.005 m; actual
tension 70 N; and field temperature of -5 o. and α =0.00000112
Given
AB= 15 m; BC=75.500 m; CD =55.00 m.
Points elevations above sea level are :
A (10.00 m), B (10.00 m), C (15.50 m), D (13.00m).
Determine the following:

1) The expected errors (do not COMPUTE, just tabulate them).

2) The total errors in segment BC, knowing the horizontal distance to
be 74.00m.
3) The total errors in segment CD.
4) Which segment you expect to have the minimum error and why.
5) The gradient BC.

Question 5 Curve Ranging (22%)

i. Knowing the bearings and the lengths of the three straights to be as
follows for the figure shown below:
WCB AI1 = 75o 20’ 00’’, AB = 68m,
WCB I1I2 = 145o 00’ 00’’, BC = 30m.
WCB I2B = 230o 00’ 00’’, CD = 50m.
determine the minimum radius of a curve connecting the three
straights? (note: determine the deflection angles first)?
ii. Determine the chainages of the following points: beginning of the
curve and end of the curve?
