    A pure substance contains only one type of particle and has fixed properties that cannot be changed physically. There are two main types of pure substances: elements, which consist of only one type of atom, and compounds, which are combinations of two or more elements that have different properties than the individual elements. Heterogeneous mixtures are non-uniform mixtures whose components can be seen and separated manually, like a salad with visible pieces of different foods. Heterogeneous mixtures include suspensions, where insoluble solids settle in liquid, and colloids, which contain tiny particles that do not settle and scatter light.

    WHEN THE ELEMTS ARE COMBIED IT PRODUCES DIFFERENT SETS OF
    PROPERTIES.

    SOLUTION IS COMPOSED OF THE SOLUTE OF THE SOLVENT.

    SOLUTE IS THE ONE THAT IS DISSOLVED.

    EXAMPLES OF HETEROGENEOUS MIXTURES: Salad, Fruit salad , Paella, Milk and cereals ,
    Chicken peas , Ice cubes in a drink and smog!

    NOTE: there are 2 types of heterogeneous mixtures:


    SUSPENSION : IS A MIXTURE OF INSOLUBLE SOLIDS THAT SETTLE DOWN IN LIQUID AFTER
    BEING LEFT UNDISTURBED

    COLLOID : is a SPECIAL KIND OF MIXTURE THAT CONTAINS PARTICLES THAT CANNOT BE SEEN
    BY THE NAKED EYE. THE TINY PARTICLES DO NOT SETTLE DOWN.
    - medium-sized particles
    -tyndall effect - particles scatter light (looks cloudy) - particles never settle
    - EXAMPLE : MILK
    types OF COLLOIDS:
    1. EMULSION one of the famous types of colloids. it is formed when you combine 2
    liquids that are immiscible
    ( liquids that do not mix)

    2. AEROSOLS
    are mixtures of very small liquid /or solid particles dispersed in gas
    ,such as air.

    2 TYPES OF AEROSOLS:
    NATURAL AEROSOLS - THESE ARE aerosols that make it into our atmosphere directly
    from natural sources. such as SMOKE . SOOT AND DESERT DUST.

    MAN-MADE AEROSOLS - CAN BE FOUND IN THE AIR OF CITIES AND INDUSTRIAL AREAS.

    3. FOAMS
    IS A MATERIAL FORMED WHEN AIR IN A LIQUID IS TRAP OR SOLID

    4. SOL
    IS MADE UP OF MINUTE SOLID PARTICLES DISPERSED IN A LIQUID MEDIUM.
    5.GEL
    IS A SEMISOLID , JELLYLIKE TYPE OF COLLOID FORMED WHEN LIQUID PARTICLES
    ARE DISPERSED IN A SOLID MEDIUM.
