3.

THIRD OFFICER`S DUTY


a) To comply with domestic/international rules/regulations, conventions, regulations, procedures and
manuals related with the areas of responsibility.

b) To assist the master/senior persons and implement the instructions

c) To perform the deck officer's duty during navigation and OOW duty during stay in port.

d) To establish the sailing plans as the officer in charge of navigation and perform relevant tasks.

e) To perform the designated person's task as in charge of machinery management;


- To manage the navigational instruments (including spare parts) & its history.
- Whistle, horn, public addresser (bridge/ forecastle/poop), weather fax (bridge).
- Deck lighting system, steering gear, gangway/pilot ladders (motor activation).
f) To take overall control for the small corrections of charts and publications and its management.

g) To manage the external documents list.

h) To draw up the AB-Log & its management.

i) To draw up various navigation reports.

j) To command berthing/unberthing operation at poop station in case of entering/leaving port.

k) To execute the tasks related with the radio communication, cooking and office work
- To manage, check and inspect (including PMS matters) the radio facilities.
- To maintain the records related with the maintenance;
- To keep all of the certificates, records and publications related with the radio according to the
relevant rules and regulation and procedures,
- To draw up the documents of arrival/departure clearance and assist the clearance procedures.
- To manage the stock of ship provisions and review its requisition.

l) The task of radio communication


- To make entries of Radio Log and its management.
- To maintain and manage the radio equipment;
* To manage and test all of radio equipment including the watch-keeping receiver;
* To check and manage the electronic equipment on the bridge including EPIRB, SART;
(except Gyro, Ecdis & navigation equipment)
- To secure the security of communication.

m) To keep/manage the records of performance for areas of responsibility.


4. Standard of Taking/Handing over the Task
a) The relief shall be executed on the same day of embark/disembark in principle.

b) Responsibility and authority will begin after signed at hand-over document. Handover document is
written in free form.

c) The newly joined personnel not experienced on the same kind of vessel shall embark the vessel at the
time of vessel's berthing and to be in service together with the predecessor.

d) The duration for taking/handing over the tasks and the use of manpower could be adjusted through the
discussion between the master and the manager of the MAT(or SM) according to the tasks in port.
However, in case the contact with the manager of the MAT(or SM) is impracticable, it may be informed
to him after the fact.

e) In case of master's relief the Master Relief Report should be made on the designated form and handed
over to the successor, and the report should be dispatched to MAT(or SM) by E-mail. (The attachments
of 100 KB or more data file size such as photographs etc. should be dispatched in diskette separately.)

f) In case of chief engineer's relief the Chief Engineer Relief Report should be made on the designated form
and handed over to the successor, and the report should be dispatched to MAT(or SM) by E-mail.

5. Shipboard Dress-Up Standard


a) When the crew is coming in and out of the place for duty such as the bridge, office etc. and the mess
rooms, they should be dressed up appropriately and the dress should be safe and clean. However, in
case it is deemed to be necessary for specific work by the master, it would be an exception. When the
crew is coming in and out the public place such as the recreation rooms, library etc., simple dress may
be allowed.

b) The uniforms provided by the Company such as the formal dress, duty dress, working clothes etc.
should be dressed as appropriate and the nameplates, shoulder straps, hats, belts, shoes etc. should be
dressed as appropriate with the dress.

c) Oily working clothes should not be kept in bed rooms or office.

d) Working shoes and safety helmets should be kept in the changing room and put on when engaged in work.

e) The use of slippers and sandals within indoors may be allowed during the rest time only at sea.
However, those should not be used when coming in and out of the bridge, mess rooms, offices,
outdoors, during rough sea and while staying in port.
