• Models that are composed of multiple 2D Cost?
When?
CAD reference files that must be combined
to define the building
• Models that allow changes to dimensions
in one view that are not automatically
reflected in other views

6
Then, what is BIM?
According to National BIM Standard,
• Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a
digital representation of physical and
functional characteristics of a facility
• Serves as a shared knowledge resource for
information about a facility
• Basic premise: collaboration by different
stakeholders at different phases of the life
cycle of a facility
https://www.nationalbimstandard.org

7
Industry Foundation Classes (IFC)
• Developed by buildingSMART consortium,
IFC is an open file format, neutral, not
controlled by individual software to facilitate
interoperability between different operators.
• Standardized, digital description of the built
environment.
• Collaboration format for BIM projects.
• Registered by International Standard
Organization ISO 16739-1:2018
