Analysis and Interpretation
1. Title Page
- The title page for a thesis contains the full title, the author's name and academic
credentials, the degree-granting faculty and department name, the name of the
university and date of graduation, and the universal copyright symbol.
- The thesis title page is usually page i, but is not numbered; the abstract (page ii)
is the first numbered page.
2. Acknowledgment
- A page of acknowledgements is usually included at the beginning of a Final Year
Project, immediately after the Table of Contents.
- Acknowledgements enable you to thank all those who have helped in carrying
out the research. Careful thought needs to be given concerning those whose
help should be acknowledged and in what order. The general advice is to
express your appreciation in a concise manner and to avoid strong emotive
language.
3. Dedication
- This part is, basically, a source to offer warmest gratefulness of the writer
towards any other person for whom he wish to pay honor.
- Dedication page always comes on the front of the book or thesis
4. Abstract
- An abstract is a short summary of the published or unpublished research paper,
usually about a paragraph (c. 6-7 sentences, 150-250 words) long.
- A well-written abstract serves multiple purposes:
o an abstract lets readers get the gist or essence of your paper or article
quickly, in order to decide whether to read the full paper;
o an abstract prepares readers to follow the detailed information, analyses,
and arguments in your full paper;
o and, later, an abstract helps readers remember key points from your
paper.
5. Table of Contents
- The Table of Contents (TOC) is an organized listing of the chapters and major
sections of the document.
o Readers will immediately be able to see how the manuscript is organized
and then skip down to sections that are most relevant to them.
o A clear, concise, and well formatted TOC is the first indicator of a good
research paper.
6. List of Tables/Figures
- A List of Tables is a reference tool that allows the readers to quickly and easily
navigate to data in the thesis or dissertation.
o Construction of the list is similar to creating a Table of Contents.
- The List of Figures allows readers to quickly and easily navigate to those pages
containing charts and images that are of interest to them.
1. References
- A references page is the last page of an essay or research paper that's been
written in APA style.
o It lists all the sources used in the research project, so readers can easily
find what were cited.
2. Appendices
- An appendix contains supplementary material that is not an essential part of the
text itself but which may be helpful in providing a more comprehensive
understanding of the research problem or it is information that is too
cumbersome to be included in the body of the paper.
Summary/Key Points:
Problem and its setting, Review of Related Literature and Studies, Research
Design and Methodology, Data Presentation, Analysis and Interpretation and Summary,
Conclusion and Recommendations are the basic contents of research paper. The
preliminary parts consist of Research Title, Acknowledgment, Dedication, Abstract, Table
of Contents and List of Tables and Figures. Entries after Chapter 5 are References,
