Nowadays, numerous representatives of the elder generation begin to complain that young people are not patriotic
enough or non-patriotic at all. This global issue finds an echo on the global scale.

Task:
Write an essay on following topic –
"What are the main reasons of the lack of patriotism
and how to develop a sense of patriotism in the hearts of youth?"

Some causes why the younger generation feels the lack of patriotism:
- One of the causes is that the more modern the world becomes, the less attention is devoted to the
traditional values, including a sense of patriotism.
- Another cause of the lack of patriotism is the process of globalization that encourages youth to
become more cosmopolitical and less patriotic.
- One more reason of the lack of sense of patriotism may be connected with the youth’s
disappointment in the misbehavior of certain leaders.
- Non-less important reason of the lack of patriotism is becoming too lazy and inactive in other spheres
of life.

Some ways/ methods how to develop/ improve the sense of patriotism among youth:
- One of the possible ways to develop the sense of patriotism can be connected with a more positively
active role of mass media, especially TV and the Internet.
- Another important factor to improve the sense of patriotism is a wider sharing and propagating the
most outstanding positive examples of leadership.
- One more possible method to encourage the positive sense of patriotism is via various activities.

Some dangers if the sense of patriotism becomes too exaggerated:

- One of the dangers of the exaggerated patriotism might lead to some conflicts within the country or
on the international level.
- One more possible danger of the exaggerated patriotism can be turning to nationalism or chauvinism.
- Another danger can be that the exaggerated patriotism closes the doors of communication with
other countries.
