INTRODUCTION

More than two-third of the population of the country still lives in the rural
and semi urban region across the nation. They are generally comprised of
the weaker section of the society. And every government lays special
focus on them while formulating policies. However, the benefit of these
schemes often fails to reach to these people but their performance on
paper works differently. One of the main reasons for such is the lack of
awareness regarding the various government schemes in people of these
sections.

This research papers tries to ascertain the awareness of the various

government scheme in weaker section of the society. The paper will
also try to find the various factors responsible for the lack of
awareness, source of information, deficiency in procuring the benefits
for the same and other related aspect.

1.1 OBJECTIVE OF STUDY

The purpose of this research work is gauging the level of awareness

regarding various government scheme in the weaker section of the
society in India and also to find the factors that are responsible for
lacking the same.
 1.2 SCOPE OF STUDY
The present research work has been taken to explore the level of
awareness in the weaker section of the society in India regarding
the various Indian government schemes.

2. ABOUT THE WEAKER SECTION OF SOCIETY

In India, the weaker section comprises of approx. 540 million people that
makes 41.6% of the total population in India. They are generally the people
who can afford to have meals two times a day. People working in small
factories, labours, rikshawdrivers, and many more are part of this section.
Though they have been the focus of all the government that India has seen
till now, but still after 64 years of independence the condition of this
section is miserable. There are myriad of factors that are reason for their
non-growth and one of them is lack of awareness regarding the various
government schemes.
