PRESSURE VESSEL MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST

External Inspection

The external inspection covers the outer parts of pressure vessels. This includes the
following items:

 [ ] Leakage
 [ ] Coverings
 [ ] Corrosions
 [ ] Vessel mountings
 [ ] Potential cracks or other external damages

Internal Inspection

The internal inspection involves inspecting pressure vessels from the inside. This includes:

 [ ] Pressure rating
 [ ] Interior surfaces
 [ ] Bolts and seals
 [ ] Pressure relief valves
 [ ] Tubing and connections
 [ ] Opening
 [ ] Special closures
 [ ] Corrosions, cracks, and other internal damages.

Pressure Test

Pressure tests are used to measure the pressure inside pressure vessels. This includes:

 [ ] Pressure pressure readings

 [ ] Leakage checks
 [ ] Valve pressure tests

Leak Testing of Pressure Vessels

1. Filling the test piece with water or oil.
2. Removing air from the test piece.
3. Pressurizing the vessel to the appropriate PSI.
4. Completely examining the test piece for any leaks or changes to its shape.

Piping Systems

This section of your checklist covers pressure vessels connected to piping systems. This
includes:

 [ ] Piping pressure rating

 [ ] Connections
 [ ] Ventilation system pressure tests
 [ ] Provision of support and expansion
 [ ] Cracking, Leakage, corrosion, and other potential damages

Documentation

Documentation is a crucial part of pressure vessel inspection. This includes:

 [ ] Test results
 [ ] Inspection dates and times
 [ ] Documentation of pressure vessel performance

BASICS OF PRESSURE VESSELS

 A pressure vessel is a closed container that is supposed to be leak-proof and is often

cylindrical or spherical. Its purpose is to keep fluids (such as gases or liquids) at a
pressure that is significantly different (higher or lower) than the pressure of the
surrounding environment

 INSPECTION AND TESTING OF PRESSURE VESSEL

 As a general rule, any pressure vessel should be inspected once it is installed and
before it's put to use. This ensures that any pressure vessel going into service is
tested and approved to perform as it should. Outside of starting service, pressure
vessels should be inspected and tested at least every five years.

SAFETY IN PRESSURE VESSEL

Pressure vessels are designed to operate safely at a specific pressure and temperature,
technically referred to as the "design pressure" and "design temperature." A vessel that is
inadequately designed to handle a high pressure constitutes a very significant safety hazard
PRESSURE VESSEL TYPES

Cylindrical, horizontal, and vertical pressure vessels are the most common kinds of vessels
and they all require specialized ASME caps on each end. These caps are called “heads” and
there are three primary kinds

PRESSURE VESSEL HAZARDS BE PREVENTED

Proper storage Training & testing of personnel Periodic inspections Proper operating
conditions Relieve pressure from system Label pressure system - inspection, pressure, flow
direction
 Proper storage.
 Training & testing of personnel.
 Periodic inspections.
 Proper operating conditions.
 Relieve pressure from system.

PRESSURE VESSEL MAINTENANCE TIPS

1. Replace When Necessary. Valves, pumps and other equipment that are attached
must undergo periodic inspection to detect potential concerns. ...
2. Inspect It Anyway. All pressure vessels are required to undergo inspection. ...
3. Follow All Safety Protocols!

PRESSURE VESSEL CHECK ONCE EVERY FIVE YEARS

Most pressure vessel regulations provide specific requirements for the frequency of
inspections. As a general rule of thumb, pressure vessels should be inspected at least once
every five years.

PRESSURE VESSEL INSPECTION COVERS THE NECESSARY CHECKS.

1. Cleaning the exterior of the vessel.
2. Inspecting for signs of corrosion.
3. Checking joints and seals for leaks.
4. Testing the pressure of the safety relief valve.
5. Carrying out an ultrasonic thickness test.
6. Checking for any air leaks.

ASME BOILER & PRESSURE VESSEL CODE

The ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) is an American Society of Mechanical
Engineers (ASME) standard that regulates the design and construction of boilers and
pressure vessels.

LEAK TEST FOR PRESSURE VESSELS

In simple terms, the pressure decay test fills a pressure vessel with air until it reaches its
target pressure, cuts the air source to isolate the pressure, and measures the decay (loss) of
that pressure over a set period of time; a pressure loss greater than a predetermined setting
indicates a leak.

5 STEP MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM AUDIT

1. Collect information on all the work orders done last year.
2. Separate unplanned maintenance from planned/ preventative maintenance.
3. Review unplanned work orders for problems.
4. Review planned/ preventative maintenance work orders for problems.
5. Check you maintenance parts usage.

VESSEL MAINTENANCE IMPORTANT

Proper maintenance of a ship is the right way to extend the life cycle of its components and
reduce degradation or even failure of the machinery. Vessel upkeep must follow all safety
and prevention regulations, which helps to achieve optimal reliability across all systems.

MAIN OBJECTIVES OF A MAINTENANCE PLAN

In maintenance management, several objectives are settled, such as improving

performance, giving regular maintenance, and replacing certain parts of the machine. So
that, machines can perform better and productivity can be increased and availability &
reliability as well.
