Transfer Goals
The students in the long run and on their own will be able to apply the concept of whole
numbers in counting, comparing, ordering and estimating quantities and in performing
operations accurately so that they will be able to choose to become wise buyer, practicing thrift
and simplicity, saving money for future use and giving financial help to those in need.
Essential Understanding:
 Numbers are symbols that help us communicate numerical values.
 The position of the digit in a number determine its value.
 Place value leads to number sense and to an effective way for computation.
Essential Questions: Why would you express numbers in different ways?
I. Preliminaries
A. Review:
Review reading and writing whole numbers. Ask the students to write a 4 - 9 digit numbers
and ask volunteers to read the numbers.
B. Motivation:
The students will play Quizziz (an online learning game) about whole numbers.
C. APK:
Let the students write the numbers:”I have 8 digits. My tens digit is 3. My ten thousands digit is
twice my tens digit. My hundreds digit is the smallest odd number. My ten millions digit is the
difference between my ten thousands digit and my hundreds digit. All my other digits are
zeroes. What number am I?
D. Focus: Concepts of Whole Numbers (Writing Numbers in Standard, Word and Expanded
Form)
II. Lesson Development
A. Presentation of Concepts
Students will know
 Concepts of Whole numbers
Students will be able to
1. Write numbers in standard, word and expanded form.
2. Explain in their own words the importance of writing numbers in different form.
3. Apply the concept of place value in writing numbers in different forms.
Broadening of Concepts:
Follow-up Exercises on writing numbers in standard, word and expanded form. Call volunteers
to share their answers.

Activity 2: Learning With a Math Buddy


The students will get a partner and together write a number with 7 to 9 digits. They will form a
riddle that would describe the number using concepts on place value and value. They will
express this number in word and standard form.

How are whole numbers important to the way society shares money or other resources?

How does reading and writing numbers help you in buying things in the market?

“Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose
that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”

Let the students answer the APPLY part of the book.

IV. Summary / Action

Let the students answer the Nurture part of the book and small sharing. Ask for 5 volunteers for
the big group sharing.

V. Purposive Assignment
BOOK ACTIVITY: The student will answer REVIEW part as homework.
