ABSTRACT
The world is undergoing rapid urbanization which results in exploitation of natural resources whereas
demolition of existing structures ends up in the generation of construction and demolition waste
(CDW) in huge quantity. This research focuses on decreasing the demand of natural resources by
utilizing CDW like ceramic tiles waste and recycled concrete aggregate as cement and fresh
aggregate respectively. The aim of the study was to investigate the microstructural performance and
mechanical (compressive and splitting tensile strength) properties as well as to provide an eco-
friendly solution and to check water absorption capability. For determining those properties cylindrical
concrete mold was made step by step by following standard procedures. In this study, the coarse
aggregate used was 100% recycled aggregate and ceramic tiles waste was used at 0%, 5%,
10% ,15% & 20% as replacement of cement. From the test result of compressive and splitting tensile
test, it is found that use of ceramic tiles waste as cement replacement by 10% to 15% shows
satisfactory strength values. So, it can be recommended that, use of ceramic waste and recycled
aggregate will give economic and environmental advantages as it will not only reduce the demand of
natural aggregate and cement, but also will reduce the quantity of construction and demolition waste
and ultimately reduce Carbon footprint.
