Re: Emmanuel Smith v. Kendale Lakes Library — MDPLS

CHR Charge No. P-10547

Dear Emmanuel Smith:

This is to inform you that the Miami-Dade Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has
closed the above-cited charge of public accommodation discrimination because it lacks
jurisdiction to process this claim further.

Under the provisions of Chapter 11A of the Miami-Dade County Code, as amended, the
CHR does not have jurisdiction to accept complaints where the discriminatory action
occurred outside of Miami-Dade County; where the complaint was filed more than
180 days after the alleged adverse employment action occurred; or where Miami-
Dade County or one of their agents is named as the Respondent (all Miami-Dade
Public Libraries are agencies of Miami-Dade County).

However, you may wish to contact the Florida Commission on Human Relations in
regard to your complaint. They can be reached directly at (850) 488-7082 or via email at
fchrinfo@fchr.myflorida.com.

This concludes this agency’s processing of this charge. If you have any questions
regarding this matter, you may contact our office at (305) 375-2784 or via e-mail at
ofep@miamidade.gov.

Sincerely,

Erin A. New, Division Director
