International Day Guidelines


Caribbean School Student Council
September 11, 2023.
International Day

I. Basic Information

➔ International Day is an Upper School event hosted by the Caribbean School


Student Council alongside the Fine Arts Department. Each class is assigned a specific
country to represent through traditional dances, foods, decorations, and costumes.
➔ Everyone is invited to the event: parents, students, family members, friends, etc.
➔ Class officials are to read and discuss these rules with all the students in their class
during homeroom. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to consult with the
Student Council.
➔ ALL students in each class are expected to participate in this event, thus
promoting class unity and cooperation. However, if a student does not want to participate,
he/she cannot be forced to do so.

II. Kiosk Guidelines

➔ ALL classes shall create a kiosk shift schedule.


➔ Both parents and students will be allowed to work in the kiosk. Parents are not allowed to
be alone in the kiosk, with the exception of when the students are performing. Please
keep in mind the kiosk fits up to 4 people (max) inside.
➔ Each class will have the opportunity to establish a kiosk where they will sell the typical
food from their country. The kiosk must be decorated with traditional decorations
corresponding to the country.
➔ A kiosk will be provided with a table and two chairs to every class and no changes will
be allowed. Each class is responsible for electrical extensions, lighting, and other
amenities needed.
III. Dance Guidelines

➔ All students are supposed to participate. If a student decides not to participate in


the dance, he/she shall help with the kiosk sales and decorations.
➔ Each class must have a minimum of 20 students in their dance.
➔ All costumes must follow the traditional wardrobe of the country, keeping in mind the
school's dress code.
➔ NO CHOREOGRAPHERS are allowed for the dances. If the Student Council
gets notified that a choreographer is being used in one of the class dances,
the class will be disqualified from the competition.
➔ Each class is to choreograph and rehearse their own dance, which must be
inspired by the traditional dance of each country.
➔ The time limit for each dance presentation is five (5) minutes.
➔ The deadline to submit the music via email is October 20, 2023. The music
shall be correspondent to the country being represented and cannot have any
inappropriate, offensive, or obscene language.

IV. Student Budget

➔ The cost per costume should not exceed $50.00.


➔ The purpose of this event is for students to get creative making their own
decorations and cooking the traditional food from each country. However, if the
class needs to set a quota (NOT MANDATORY) to cover food and decoration
costs, the limit per student is $20.00.
➔ The total cost per student (costume, food, and decoration) shall not exceed
$70.00.
V. Food

➔ All foods being sold shall be already made beforehand. In other words, anything
that you sell shall be prepared and ready to serve in the event. Cooking in the
event will not be allowed.
➔ A main dish is required for each kiosk in addition to two other sides (this can be: drinks,
appetizers, desserts)
➔ The food that will be sold in the kiosk shall be traditional food from the country.
➔ Adaptations to certain dishes are allowed.
➔ Any item being sold in the kiosk CAN’T exceed $12.
➔ It is not mandatory to have extra objects, items, or activity, but it is NOT permitted to
have any professionals on the premises. This item should NOT exceed $10.
➔ If beverages are being sold they MUST be traditional to each country. Water and Soda
CAN’T be sold in the kiosk.
➔ NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES are to be sold.
➔ The menu for the kiosk NEEDS to be approved by the International Day Committee
(President and Secretary of the Student Council, Head of the Fine Arts Department, and
the Dean of Students) beforehand. The deadline for the menu is October 20, 2023.
