If you are lucky enough, you will eat three meals a day because food is very important for the body as
it acts like fuel. Food is the reason why we walk, run and talk. It helps us in our daily life. The food
we usually eat must contain the essential nutrients that are required to keep our body healthy. This is
the reason why we must pay attention to doctors especially nutritionists when they advise to eat healthy
and fresh food because it contains more nutrients for our body.
You must wonder what happens to the food that we eat and where it goes. It is a long process. Our
body has many organs that perform different functions like digestion. The digestion is the process in
which the food is digested in our body. It is a complex process made by the digestive system.

Digestive System:
There are different parts of the digestive system in which the food that you eat stays for a certain
amount of periods. Here are the important parts of the digestive system.
Mouth: Your food must stay in your mouth for around ten seconds. If you chew the food, it will
become easier for food to pass.
Esophagus: From your mouth, the food moves to esophagus where it takes around six seconds to pass
down to the next part.
Stomach: Stomach is the part where most of the digestion takes place. The actual time for the food to
stay in the stomach depends on the type of food you ate. Most foods stay inside your stomach for
