Lesson Plan in Mathematics 10

Date: September 27, 2021

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:

a. Identify polynomial functions.

b. Illustrate polynomial functions.
c. Value accumulated knowledge as means of new understanding.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Illustrating polynomial functions
Material/s: projector, laptop, board, marker
Reference/s: Junior High School Learning Module Mathematics 10 (pages 23-29)

III. PROCEDURES
 PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY
 Greetings
 Prayer
 Checking of attendance
 Drill and Review
 What is Remainder theorem?
 What are the two ways to find the value of P(r) or remainder?
 Motivation
 Given the scrambled words, the students will arrange the letters to find
the answer.
ARRANGED ME!

1. manypiollo
Hint:
1st letter starts with letter p
4 syllables
2. coinfunt
Hint:
1st letter starts with letter f
2 syllables
LESSON PROPER
 Activity:

“Pikpakboom”
1. The students will be divided into 2 groups.
2. When the teacher says “Pikpakboom 1” all group 1 will stand. Then, the
last one to stand will be going to answer the question as follows:

Direction: Say FACT if the expression being shown is a polynomial,

otherwise say BUFF.
1. 14x
2. 5𝑥 2 + 𝑥
3. 3𝑥 3 + 2𝑥 2 + 1

 Analysis:

The teacher will then ask the following questions to the students:
1. When are functions polynomials?
2. How can we determine the degree of a polynomial function?
3. In a polynomial function, which is the leading coefficient? Constant term?
4. How can we determine the number of terms?

 Abstract:

A polynomial function is a function in the form

P(x) = 𝑎𝑛 𝑥 𝑛 + 𝑎𝑛−1 𝑥 𝑛−1 + 𝑎𝑛−2 𝑎𝑛−2 + ⋯ + 𝑎1 𝑥 1 + 𝑎0

Where n is a nonnegative integer, n as a positive integer implies that:

a. n is not negative
b. n is not zero
c. n is not a fraction
d. n is not a radical, and
e. n is not imaginary

𝑎0 , 𝑎1 , … , 𝑎𝑛 are real numbers called coefficients, 𝑎𝑛 𝑥 𝑛 is the leading term,

𝑎𝑛 is the leading coefficient, and 𝑎0 is the constant term.

Example 1: P(x) = 6𝑥 3 + 4𝑥 2 + 6
Example 2: P(x) = 5𝑥 2 + 2𝑥 3 − 𝑥 4 + 3
Example 3: y = (x + 2) (x – 2)
 Application

Direction: Complete the table below.

Polynomial Function Degree Leading Leading No. of terms

Term Coefficient
1. 𝑥 3 + 6𝑥 2 + 11𝑥 − 6
2. 2 – x+3𝑥 2 − 4𝑥 4
3. x - 2𝑥 2 + 2
4. 𝑥 4 + 2𝑥 3 + 5𝑥 2 + 1
5. x(x – 5)

IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Identify the polynomial functions from the given set of functions.
Identify the degree, leading coefficients, leading term, and no. of terms.
1. F(x) = 2 – x + 3𝑥 2 − 4𝑥 4
2. P(x) = √5𝑥 7 + 2𝑥 3 − 𝑥
3. Y = 𝑥 2 + 2𝑥 + 1
4. F(x) = √5𝑥 + 3
5. Y = −4𝑥 2 + 2𝑥 −1

V. ASSIGNMENT
A doll company can make a doll at a cost of ₱35 per doll. If the selling of the doll is x
pesos and the number of dolls sold per month is 500 – x,
a. Express the monthly profit in pesos as a function of x.
b. If the selling price of the doll is ₱85, determine the monthly profit. Use the result
in letter a.
