The poem: “It Is Dangerous to Read Newspapers” compares the innocence and obliviousness of those

who have not been influenced by the media to the grown-up. In the first stanzas, Margaret Atwood
contrasts the everyday actions of a child to the everyday tragedies of the world. Later, the child grows
up and we see her as a dangerous person, despite good intentions. I think this poem reveals the
influence of the media, especially its utilization of propaganda. When the author writes about how the
narrator’s good intentions harm others, it reminds me of how propaganda can cause you to believe
harmful things
