Siemens Portable HMI Hardware (PHMI)

Module Description
• This module provides participants with the necessary
information and practice to replace a Siemens Portable
HMI. Participants will get hands-on application training
using the training simulator ECS 4009.
• The Connection Box PN mentioned later in this module
is an interface box for wiring connections between the
PHMI and the cell. The “PN” refers to ProfiNet. The
term ProfiNet that Siemens uses is actually EtherNet.

Siemens PHMI Overview

• The Siemens family of Human Machine Interfaces
(HMIs) are a series of HMIs used for numerous
applications.
– They can be used to replace manual-operator pushbuttons
and lights.
– They can be used for medium or high automation global
controls architecture.
– These units communicate with the cell PLC through the
EtherNet/IP network.

Hardware
• Siemens WinCC uses Microsoft Windows CE that is
similar to the software that runs on a standard
Personal Digital Assistant, (PDA).
– Siemens WinCC does not require a sequenced power-off
shutdown.
• The maintenance workstation should have a sequenced shutdown.
– The software used to run the actual “HMI interface” is
Simatic Siemens WinCC flexible 2007
– The Siemens PHMI is configured through the EtherNet/IP
network.
• The Siemens Portable HMI is connected to the cell level Ethernet
switch.
