HIPAA Varian’s products and services are specifically designed to include features that
help our customers comply with the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). The software application uses a secure login
process, requiring a user name and password, that supports role-based access.
Users are assigned to groups, each with certain access rights, which may include
the ability to edit and add data or may limit access to data. When a user adds or
modifies data within the database, a record is made that includes which data
were changed, the user ID, and the date and time the changes were made. This
establishes an audit trail that can be examined by authorized system
administrators.

Purpose of the Varian MSI Installation Guide

This guide describes the use of *.msi files for silent (unattended)
installation provided by Varian Medical System (VMS) for ARIA and
Eclipse applications.
This guide provides a guideline for installing specific features of VMS
*.msi files according to customer’s requirements. Then, specified
*.msi files can deploy VMS client applications remotely or from a
local drive.
Customer’s requirements can be:
 Deploying VMS client applications to client workstations
 Uninstalling VMS client applications
 Installing VMS client applications and providing detailed log files
 Installing NLS extensions of VMS client applications

Introduction 9
Exclusion
There are many different deployment tools used by customers.
Therefore, this manual cannot cover the usage of all those tools but
holds the required information needed to successfully install Varian
*.msi files through any deployment tool.
This document does not
 cover any Service Packs that might be necessary for any of the
products discussed here.
 include nor cover client installation packages with ARIA for
Medical Oncology software.
The MSI packages provided by Varian Medical Systems are designed
for distribution for native workstation installations, this deployment
mechanism should not be used in conjunction with a Citrix
environment.
Note: Certain products described in this manual are not released as of
publication date of this manual.

In case of a major upgrade (for example, from version 8.0),
VarianPlatformClient.msi automatically removes earlier
versions of the Varian Platform Client application along with Service
Packs, before installing the current version.
Note: If Service Pack 1 of the Platform Client 1.0.20 is installed, it
is recommended to remove it. It must be removed manually since it was created
as an independent MSI file.

DICOM Import Export, Portal Dosimetry, SmartAdapt, Registration
and Smart Segmentation Knowledge Based Contouring, Eclipse SRS
Localization, ARIA Practice Management, Eclipse as well as
Simulation applications. It needs to be installed on all computers on
which these applications are installed.
In case of a major upgrade (for example, from version 1.1),
Application_Frame.msi automatically removes earlier versions
of the Application Frame application along with Service Packs and

Chapter 13 ARIA Practice Management Client

Varian Medical Systems provides the AriaPractice.msi file to

deploy the ARIA Practice Management Client application. You can
specify the ARIA Practice Management Client software installation
package according to your requirements.
In case of a major upgrade (for example, from version 8.0),
AriaPractice.msi automatically removes earlier versions of the
ARIA Practice Management application along with Service Packs
before installing the current version. Varian client software prior to
ARIA (for example, VARiS/Vision) is not removed automatically.
Therefore, it needs to be removed manually.
The same is true for NLS extension, where the higher version of NLS
extension will remove the lower version automatically.
In case of a removal there are no dependencies between the
application and the NLS extension. Each MSI file must be removed
separately.

before running AriaPractice.msi. In case they are not yet
available, they need to be installed according to their table order
