Analysis in SunPlus

Overview
What is Analysis?
• Analysis allows you to analyze many types of
data in different ways to meet inquiry and
reporting needs.
• Analysis lets you enter analysis codes against
different types of data to classify it.
• Reporting and inquiry tools use the Analysis
Codes to extract, sort, and report on the data.
What is Analysis?
• SunPlus lets you define up to 100 Analysis
Dimensions.
• For each Analysis Dimension you can define
unlimited Analysis Codes.
• You can assign selected Analysis Dimensions to
types of data.
• When you enter one of these types of data, the
system prompts you to enter the appropriate
Analysis Code.
What is Analysis?
• The Reporting and Inquiry tools use the
Analysis Codes to extract and report on the
data.
– For example, if you entered employee codes on
particular expense account postings, you can
extract all of the postings for a particular
employee to produce an employee expenses
analysis report.
What is the difference between Analysis
Dimension and Analysis Code?
• The Analysis Dimension identifies a type of analysis
you want to apply to one or more data entities.
• The Analysis Code identifies a subset of the
Dimension.
– For example, if you set up Department as an Analysis
Dimension, you could set up an Analysis Code for each
Department within that Dimension
• Analysis Dimension = Department
– Analysis Code = Treasury
Levels of Analysis
• Data can be analyzed at two levels:
– Accounts
– Transactions
Account Analysis
• Analysis applied to the natural accounts allows
account groupings in different ways.
• Accounts can be grouped according to account
classification, or they can be grouped according to
any Analysis that has been assigned to the accounts.
• So each account can be analyzed in up to 10 ways.
• The Analysis Codes can be used to extract, inquire,
and report on the accounts.
Account Analysis
• When a new account is opened, you are prompted to
enter up to 10 Analysis Codes – one for each of the
Analysis Dimensions that have been assigned to the
ledger account.
• Only enter an Analysis Code if that particular Analysis
Dimension is relevant for the type of account being
opened.
Transaction Analysis
• Up to 10 Analysis Codes can be entered on individual
transactions that are posted to the ledger accounts.
• These Analysis Codes provide additional analysis.
– For example, enter an employee code on all transactions
posted to employee related expense accounts.
• Then produce en expenses analysis by account, broken down by
employee.
• Also produce an employee expense report by extracting all of the
expense transactions relating to a particular employee.
Transaction Analysis
• For Transaction Analysis to be meaningful,
appropriate Analysis Codes must always be entered
on all relevant transactions.
