CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

This chapter explains various methodologies that were used in gathering data and

analysis which are relevant to the research. Information pertinent to the understanding of

the methodology such as, research design, respondent of the study, research instrument,

data collection procedure and statistical treatments will be discussed in this chapter. This

are presented to become a direction in comprehend the mechanics of the study.

Research Design

Descriptive Correlational Design was intended to use in this study. The design

encompasses the collection and use of data systematically to describe the certain variables

and the relationships that occur naturally between and among them. The design chosen was

use with the study in order to understand the relationship of proper budgeting of allowance

and the advantages on the academic performance of selected Grade 12 students.

Descriptive correlational design is considered appropriate for this study being that proper

spending of money is deliberate to collect data with view to describing the respondents

advantages on proper budgeting of allowance and to their academic performance .

Respondent of the study

Forty (40) selected students coming from the Senior High School from Grade 12

sections Aries, Aquarius, Libra, Pisces and Virgo where all the sections have eight

(respondents with overall total of forty (40) respondents to determine the relationship

between proper budgeting of allowance and advantages on their academic performance.

Sampling Method

A simple random is a subset of individuals or objects chosen from a larger

population in such a way that every individual or object has an equal chance of being

selected. A simple is considered random when it is selected without any bias or preference

towards certain individuals or objects. We use the simple random because it is an essential

tool for any researcher who wants to draw meaningful conclusions from their data. It allows

us to save time and resources while still obtaining accurate results that can inform our

understanding of the world around us.

Research Instrument

The instrument used in gathering data is survey questionnaire which have 3 parts.

Survey questionnaire is objective questions used to gain detailed insights from respondents

about a survey research topic. It was distributed to the selected students to answer the given

questions. The first part of this survey questionnaire asked for the number of students daily

allowance where choices provided for them, such as P60.00-P70.00, P70.00-P80.00,

P80.00-P90.00, P90.00-P100.00. Second question were asked about level of their academic

performance here include for them to answer their overall average within the 2 past

quarters. The part II of the survey questionnaires comprises to describe the proper

budgeting of allowance of selected grade 12 students . And last part , researchers evaluate

the advantages and effects of allowance through the academic performance of the

respondents , to know what kind of advantages and effects would be. The researchers

enumerate some advantages and effects for them, and the respondents were given the

instruction, their answers will be scaled through Five Point Likert Type. (5) Strongly

Agree/SA. (4) Moderately Agree/MA. (3) Agree/A. (2) Moderately Disagree/MD. (1)
Strongly Disagree/SD. The answer to the question Is there a significant relationship

between proper budgeting of allowance and advantage to their academic performance will

be find out after conducting a survey and tallying the answers.

Data Gathering Procedure

To this study before gathering the data , researchers would be having a letter request

and permission of School Principal to conduct the survey questionnaire to this study. After

the confirmation of the request , the researchers distributed the survey questionnaire to

forty (40) selected Grade 12 students who are the respondents of this study . The students

were given a short discussion to understand what to do before answering the questions

given. After collecting the answered survey questionnaire , the researchers started to tally

and interpret the information gathered from the respondents.

Statistical Treatment

In this study, the researcher used three statistical treatment such as Pearson -

Product Moment Coefficient, Mean Percentage, and Weighted mean.

Pearson Product Moment Coefficient to a measure of the strength and direction of

association that exists between two variables measured on at least an interval scale.

The formula for this is presented:

where: r = pearson product - moment coefficient

n = number of respondents

Include summation of x, y, xy
R QUALITATIVE DESCRIPTION

1 Perfect

0.75 to < 1 Very High

0.50 to < 0.75 Moderately High

0.25 to < 0.50 Moderately Low

>0 to < o.25 Very Low

On the other hand, mean percentage was used to describe the proper budgeting of

allowance of selected grade 12 students. Through this treatment the most to least proper

spending of money were determined by the researchers.

The formula used is presented here:

Where: P = percentage

f = frequency

n = total number of respondents

And lastly, weighted mean was used in classifying the response of respondents to

the questionnaire on the evaluation of advantages and effects of having proper budgeting

of their allowance direct to their academic performance of grade 12 students.

The formula used is presented here:

Where, WM = the weighted mean

Twf = total weighted frequency, sum of weighted frequency

n = the total number of respondents
