Analysis

The film "Behind the board" tells us a story of the dream fulfilled by a young woman, who
dreamed of being a teacher, despite all the circumstances and obstacles, she was able to fulfill
her dream. Stacey, a mother of two and wife, is hired to care for children at a shelter. Stacey
faces her first job, but the place was not what Stacy dreamed or expected; since the shelter was
a room in very poor condition that was used as a classroom for the children of that shelter.
Those children with bad education, bad habits, rebellious and disobedient, added to the
precarious conditions of that place made Stacy's first day’s frustrating, desperate and made her
feel disappointed. In addition, the parents of these children were also people who did not give
good examples to their children, since some were drunk, others drug addicts and bad behavior,
which also did not contribute to the training of their children, making this the work of the
teacher much harder and more difficult.
However, with the days Stacey, thanks to the love he feels for what he does, little by little he
was gaining the affection of those children and the trust of them and their parents, and in view
of the poor conditions and needs of that place, for which he could not find answers from the
school authorities, decides to use its own resources to improve its workplace and provide these
children with a better education; so he arranged the room by painting it, using new furniture,
placing a blackboard and adorning the place with colorful posters that caught the attention of
the students. In addition to that, she brings each of them breakfast, since they arrived at school
without breakfast and therefore did not pay due attention to their classes; he also took it upon
himself to arrange them to improve their physical appearance and in the meantime never gave
up on continuing to seek the support of the school authorities who would provide them with
the help they needed, desks, books and other items necessary to teach their classes properly,
until he succeeded and found the person who, after having heard the story of each child and
knowing the conditions of that place, he was moved and decided to help them, providing them
with books, armchairs, materials, a piano and many other things that they lacked so that this
space was converted into a real classroom. The film teaches us that as future teachers we must
face different challenges that are presented to us as educators, much depends on our ability to
face it as the teacher Stace did, she taught us that wanting is power, it is not only by vocation
but by passion to work and wanting to help children.
If you work as a teacher in that school: what do you different?
If this were my case, as a teacher like Stacey I would be with many expectations and at the
same time nervous, since it would be my first job. Also a little frustrated, due to the conditions
of the classroom because they are not the best to teach classes, a student to concentrate and
acquire a better learning needs to be in an adequate classroom and that this gives him
tranquility and security, but as we know this is not the case, he would seek help from the
relevant authorities to let them know what the children are going through, my methodology
would try to make it more interactive so that the child is motivated to want to learn, make the
class more dynamic, the teacher Stacey gives us a good example, despite the obstacles she was
able to move the children forward, this teaches me that we should not give up, and despite the
circumstances that may arise in my career as a future teacher. As students are very rebellious
to talk to them and guide them, as a serious strategy to try to have a good relationship with
parents.
