Review of Related Literature

A review of related literature (RRL) is a thorough examination of the available

literature on a thesis or dissertation's topic. You discuss information and discoveries

from existing literature related to your topic in an RRL. If you identify gaps or disputes

in the current literature, you can describe them in your review, as well as how you

propose to address or resolve these gaps or conflicts through your research.

In order to conduct an RRL, you must first locate relevant literature. You may

achieve this using a variety of online and offline resources. Make a note of any relevant

materials because you will need to reference them in your paper. Make notes and

identify significant themes from each resource to discuss in the evaluation as you move

through the materials.

Determine how you want to arrange the review before you begin, such as if you

want to discuss the resources by topics, dates, relevance, and so on.

When composing the review, start by describing the review's context and goal.

Then, according to how you choose to organize them, begin discussing each of the listed

resources. Before discussing the main concept and points, you might state the title,

author, publication, and date for each. You can choose to list parts and sub-sections, as

shown in this example, or leave it more free-flowing, as shown in this example.

Finally, in the synthesis, you describe how each resource's distinct concepts relate

to one another. You might use a table or a matrix to do this.

1. Provides the interpretation of existing literature in light of updated developments in

the field to help in establishing the consistency in knowledge and relevancy of

existing materials

2. It helps in calculating the impact of the latest information in the field by mapping

their progress of knowledge.

3. It brings out the dialects of contradictions between various thoughts within the field

to establish facts

4. The research gaps scrutinized initially are further explored to establish the latest

facts of theories to add value to the field

5. Indicates the current research place in the schema of a particular field

6. Provides information for relevancy and coherency to check the research

7. Apart from elucidating the continuance of knowledge, it also points out areas that

require further investigation and thus aid as a starting point of any future research

8. Justifies the research and sets up the research question

9. Sets up a theoretical framework comprising the concepts and theories of the

research upon which its success can be judged

10. Helps to adopt a more appropriate methodology for the research by examining the

strengths and weaknesses of existing research in the same field
