I. PROJECT OVERVIEW
Title : BIÑAN YOUTH MEDIA CONVENTION:
The Future of Journalism: Youth-Driven Radio and TV
Broadcasting in Post Pandemic World
Date : October 14, 2023
Time : 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Venue : Saint Michael’s College of Laguna
Youth involvement in the media spans a wide range of activities – from learning technical,
production, writing, and reporting skills to developing and deconstructing media content – and is
closely connected to the processes of media education and literacy. In engaging with the media,
young people explore and learn about themselves and the world around them.
As a broadcast media, radio has inherent advantages over print and visual based media forms.
Radio is best suited to enable participation and provide opportunities for an equal exchange of ideas,
information, and knowledge sharing. More importantly, radio is cost-effective, easily accessible, and
portable, which makes it a very popular media.

Including young people in broadcasting allows for a more diverse range of perspectives and
voices. They can bring fresh ideas and insights to the content, making it more relatable to their peers
and the younger generation. Youth involvement in local radio and TV stations can foster community
engagement. Young broadcasters can cover issues that matter to their generation, promote local
events, and provide a platform for community voices.
Given the shift towards digital media and online streaming, youth broadcasters can play a crucial
role in adapting traditional broadcasting to new platforms. They often have a better grasp of
emerging technologies and trends. Young broadcasters often have a strong connection with their
peers, making it easier to engage with younger audiences. They can use social media and interactive
content to foster viewer participation.
Hence, training the youth for radio and tv broadcasting is deemed necessary. Being inspired with
professionals in this field will help the youth acquire necessary skills for journalism not just for
competition preparation but for actual experience. The City Government of Biñan provides platform
for youth and students to apply their skills for holistic youth development.
With this reason, the Biñan City Youth and Sports Development Office proposed to conduct
BIÑAN YOUTH MEDIA CONVENTION: The Future of Journalism: Youth-Driven Radio and TV
Broadcasting in Post Pandemic World.
