Every enquiry is the subject of a detailed
design process. Layout drawings are lA
prepared on our bespoke software
package. Suggestions which will improve
the layout or aid the installation process
are noted on the drawing and an itemised /

The maximum clear span of Floorspan beams is dictated by a number of factors to include:-
size of beams, type of finishes, loading conditions, specified imposed loads & density of infill blocks.
Clear spans of up to 600mm for 150mm deep beams and 800mm for 225mm deep beams can be
accommodated by altering the beam layout. A range of maximum spans are shown on the tables below.

All Floorspan beams and planks are made at our production facility in Wisbech and are subject to strict quality
Beams and planks are:-
150mm or 225mm deep to coincide with brickwork
coursing
Wet cast in steel moulds for dimensional uniformity
Smooth finish for easier handling
Subject to our own quality control checks
- Manufactured from 60 N/mm? concrete
- OPC in accordance with BS 12: 1989
~ Aggregate in accordance with BS 882: 1983
- 5mm or 7mm pre-stressing wire to BS 5896 : 1980 with
a minimum tensile strength of 1670 N/mm?
Approximate weight of beams is 35kg/m(150mm beams)
or 77Kg/m (225mm beams).Planks have a mass of 365kg/m?
Our purpose designed
grabs allow beams to
be handled easily and
safely by the driver
unaided.
Beams will be delivered to site and crane off loaded as close to
the point of use as site conditions allow. Movement of beams
thereafter is the customer's responsibility. On larger sites beams
can be colour coded for plot identification. Beams should always
be stored the right way up on a level, firm, dry base. Timber
bearers should be provided between layers of beams and in no
case should the bearers be outside of those supporting the row
below.
Movement of the beams on site can be by hand, forklift or crane.
+ Bearers should be laid across beams before stacking materials
ontop.
+ Stacked materials should always be as close to the bearing as
possible
+ Loads should not exceed 350kg per joist (e.g. 120 bricks or 20
blocks)
The ground below the beams should be free from vegetation and surface soil treated with a weedkiller.
Backfilling of the foundation with selected material is permissible providing a clear void of 75mm minimum
beneath the beams is left. Where the potential for soil heave exists this should be increased to 225mm minimurn.
Cor rtLightbeams are ideally suited for use
in our Thermafloor high insulation
system. Utilising Beamshield polystyrene
panels “U" values as low as 0.12 W/M2K
can be achieved. Easy to install with
reduced manual handling considerations
this really is the lightweight, high
insulation solution.
Smaller in section than our standard beams,
lightbeam is robustly designed to give a solid,
rigid beam, ideally suited to domestic
applications. Lightbeam is suitable for severe
exposure conditions with good concrete cover
to reinforcing tendons, 20mm shoulders to
support infill blocks & a generous taper to the
top section to aid grouting. Even designed to
class 2 as defined in BS 8110:- 1 1997 spans of
up to 6000mm are possible but when combined
with our STANDARD beams over the longer
spans you can be sure of a solid, economic and
well engineered layout in all situations.
——CURT
Installation is an important part of our business. In many cases
beams can be installed directly from the delivery lorry saving
time and money. This is particularly beneficial on small sites
where storage space is limited and room/access for cranes
and advance delivery of beams and infill blocks is not available.
For larger areas and upper floors cranes are used.
ERCIPaLor ens
For ground floors, beams should be laid onto a d.p.c.with a minimum bearing
of 99mm. Care should be taken to ensure that beams do not protrude into
the cavity.
Infill blocks of the specified density should be placed between beam ends to
ensure the spacing of the beams is accurate. In all cases, our layout drawing
will recommend a starting point for each bay. Once all beams are in position
the remaining infill blocks can be placed.

The whole floor should be grouted with a 1:6 cement/sharp sand
or 1:4 soft sand mix as soon after laying as possible, This is best
achieved by thoroughly wetting the floor and then brushing the
grout in with a stiff brush to form a firm cohesive floor. Where 2 or
3 beams are placed together they should be infilled with concrete.
Domestic garage floors must have a minimum 50mm thick 20
N/mm? concrete screed reinforced with A98 steel mesh, applied
direct.
Cor rtWith the increased emphasis on sound separation between dwellings
(flats) as defined in Part E of the Building Regulations our 150mm thick
solid or 215mm hollowcore planks are a"sound’ solution to the problem
They are also ideal for offices, shops, light industrial and high quality
residential property. Both have a mass of 365kg/m? and are wet cast in
steel moulds. Reduced width units ensure a “made to measure" fit for
your project. Holes for services and soil pipes can be preformed during
manufacture, Screeds and ceiling finishes can be applied direct or as part
of a system to comply with the Building Regulations or Robust Details

Where resistance to flanking transmission
is required, units can be built into the standard inner leaf as shown.
However, note the key detail will result in a slight projection into the cavity.

Planks can be bedded on
mortar or land directly onto L 1
prepared bearings. Voids
between planks and bearings
(particularly on paralell sides
where built into walls) should
be pointed with mortar
before building work
continues. On completion of
the floor, joints between
planks should be concreted,

FLOORSPAN CONTRACTS can supply
and install precast concrete staircases
and landings to ensure you receive a
complete package for upper floors.
CU
It is a mandatory
requirement when installing
upper floors to provide a
means of fall arrest for
operatives engaged in the
works.
Floorspan Contracts can
provide this service if
| | required.
To prevent the build up of stagnant air pockets in the underfloor
areas, ventilation should be provided at not more than 3 metre
centres equal to 1500mm? per metre run of external wall
FLOORSPAN CONTRACTS’ air bricks & telescopic vents have a free
vent area of 6000mm? and will satisfy this requirement
Where methane or other gas contamination is likely special provision
must be made. Further details are available upon request.

A variety of finishes can be laid over Floorspan beam and
block floors including screeds, floating timber floors and
asphalt. In domestic garages a concrete topping, minimum
50mm thick, reinforced with A98 or A142 mesh should be
provided over the floor.
