introduce the new Russian literature to French readers with his translations from Nikolay
Vasilievich Gogol and Ivan Turgenev. Apart from being influenced by Walter Scott in
historical novels and Pushkin in dramas, it can be said that he was successful in capturing an
original style and theme. In his works, he focused on the themes of fear and horror, and
adhered to mysticism. mysticism, in its broadest sense, is the pursuit of an intimate and
personal connection with God or any divine being. Mystics believe that God can be reached
by clearing their minds of all thoughts other than God.

describe energetic and high-quality people, to present local characteristics, he tended to erase
his own existence behind the people he created, thus bringing the coolness of realism to his
narrative.
