1.0 General
Release of Water from the Reservior for the Safety of the Dam:
Water release commenced on 10th January 2022, Initially used the bottom outlet
gate , then the spillway radial gate#3. All the gates have been completely closed but
so far the water released is about (3,734.0 x 10 6 m³) through bottom outlet and
Spillway towards the tailrace channel. - See attachment 2 (Att2 - Discharge
Calculation) for details.

Dam Performance:
Mohamed/Charles/Dayo
As at the end of this reporting week, the water storage in the reservoir is at about
99.61%. The maximum dam water leakage, according to the design and
specification for this dam, is 120 litres/sec. Currently the Dam Total water leakage
is at 10.71 litre/sec :- (1.898 litres/sec from ACRD righbank, 1.649litres/sec from
upstream construction joints and 3.694litre/sec from downstream bedrock
drainage system), which is about 7.5% of the design value.
With this, the Dam is performing excellently well. However, the repairs works are
still ongoing on the leakage holes to further reduce the water leakage.

An electric water level meter is being used to monitor the changes in the water
level. During this week, the water level increased by 0.48 with an average rate of
(0.069m/day) due to the closure of all spill-way gate sand bottom outlet. The water Mohamed/Charles/Dayo
level is currebtly at elevation 228.65m. The volume of the reservoir is at 9353.7
(10⁶ m³), while the specific area capacity is 377.09 km2. The present percentage
storage volume is at 99.61%. See Att 2 - Impoundment for details

1.1.5 Instrumentation, Monitoring & Installation

Routine dam foundation monitoring and observation was carried out during the
week by observing the various installed instruments such as jointmeter, rod
extensometer, multiple point extensometer, thermometer, Crackmeter,
piezometer, pressure and stress cell at block 12 , 20, 33,39, power house & Right
abutment Rock fill Dam upstream and downstream to check the situation of the
dam. The V-notch weir in the gallery are checked weekly to accurately measure the Mohamed/Charles/Dayo
flow of water leakages in the gallery. The main inspection part include dam body,
dam foundation and dam abutment. The pendulum systems (hanging and
inverted),and the wire alignment instrument is faulty and under repair. During the
week under review, no new instrument was installed

6.1 Powerhouse - Hydro-Electrical Works and & commissioning Tests

- Unit 1 #
A. Unit 1 Load Test commissioning:
The following test were carry out during the connection to the grid commissioning

i. Synchronization of Generator with power grid (Auto and manual

Synchronization).
Before and during the synchronization test; the voltage phases (338kV - 340kV) and
frequency ( 50Hz) of the unit and that of the grid were checked and valve were in
normal range .
a. Auto synchronize test; Unit started in no load state, governor system in electric
manual mode and the generation command was sent via LCU and the synchronism
started. In addition, the unit voltage and frequency were adjusted automatically
and when the voltage different, phase angel value and frequency are less than the
setting value the GCB closed automatically.

b Manual Synchronization test; When the voltage value, phase angel value and
frequency value difference are more than the setting value, the voltage and
frequency values were adjusted manually. Also, when the voltage amplitude value,
frequency value and phase value difference between the unit and the power grid
were less than the fixed values , the GCB was manually closed to enable its
connection to the grid.

ii. Load increase test (From 0% to 100%). Defar/Adeolu/Sunny/Isaac/Femi/N

Unit start up, Auto synchronized to close GCB and it was connected with the grid, urudeen
during this process Governor changed to electric manual mode, and guide vanes
was slowly open to increase load to 30%, thus the guide vane decreased load
minimum value and changed to auto mode.
Likewise load increase test 0% - 100% controlled by SCADA by 10% increase for each
step, every step run for each 15 min, Record for the vibration and swing were also
taken.

iii. Unit heat running at rated output;

When the water level was at rated water head, the heat running test was carried
out, the unit was running for 2 hour and bearing pad temperature was recorded for
every half hour until value of temperature rising is less than 1 Celsius in one hour.

iv. Load rejection test at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%; The Unit Automatic start to
connect with the grid by sending command from SCADA to open the GCB, The unit
is subjected to load rejection test at P= 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% were done
respectively; the unit run for 15min in each load point, 1GCB was used to reject
load. Thus, record was taken before, during and after the rejection, Also Run out
and vibration data during the load rejection test were recorded.

5-20mm, 20-40mm and 40-80mm). The material was sourced from Shamuyambo Dunni
granite quarry and sampled at RCC crushing plant conveyor belt. All test results
comply with ASTM Standard.
