Yoga is most important for everyone’s life as it helps in balancing the relationship between body
and mind. It is a type of exercise that helps learn physical and mental discipline through regular
practice. It originated in India long years ago in ancient times. Earlier, people belonging to
Buddhism and Hinduism used to yoga and meditation. Various types of yoga are Raja yoga,
jnana yoga, Bhakti yoga, Karma yoga, and Hatha yoga. Generally, Hatha yoga having many
asanas, practiced by the people in India. A world-level event is celebrated every year called
the International Day of Yoga to increase the awareness of yoga benefits worldwide.
International Day of Yoga or World Yoga Day has been declared (by the United Nations General
Assembly) to get celebrated on the 21st of June after the suggestion and initiation of India. Yoga
includes pranayama and also Kapal Bharti, one of the best and most effective breathing
exercises. Yoga is a therapy that helps get rid of illnesses slowly if practiced regularly. It makes
some positive changes to the internal body and regularizes the body organs’ functioning. There is
specific yoga for different purposes, so only required ones can practiced.

The cinema is the cheapest source of entertainment today. Millions of people see
movies and enjoy them. It is a good pastime in all the places – big or small.
The cinema industry has made rapid progress after independence. In the beginning
there were silent, and black and white movies. Now we are dazzled by the colors in
every movie.
Big posters are seen on the walls of cities and towns for advertisements. They also
announce the coming movies in the city. There is always a rush before the booking
windows. So, the tickets are often sold in the black market or at a premium.
On the one hand the cinema is a source of entertainment. On the other it is also a
source of knowledge and information. Films satisfy all the sections of people and
their different tastes.
There are religious movies and historical movies. They recreate the past, the old
culture and lifestyle. Social films spread awareness about social evils of dowry,
casteism and communal feelings. Some films expose the corruption in high places
among the policemen and the citizens.

IX. Read the passage carefully and then answer the questions.

Newspapers are our good friends. Newspapers bring us news and views from all
corners of the world. Any incident or occurrence of importance that takes place is
reported by the newspapers. The word ‟NEWS‟ is interpreted as North, East, West
and South. It means that the newspaper provides us with information and news
regarding various subjects from all directions. Newspapers also give us articles on all
kinds of topics such as political, social, economic, monetary, business, commerce,
sports, education, health etc. Newspapers publish advertisements that attract the
attention of the customers.

They also contain book reviews of literary, historical and other books by the scholars.
Newspapers are of different types. Some newspapers are published daily. They are
called “Dailies‟. We must cultivate the habit of reading newspapers to know what is
happening around the globe. The one who reads newspapers and interprets editorial
pages can only be master in current affairs and general knowledge. Reading
newspapers helps you to find out what news is and how it is written. The one who
dreams of being a journalist should not spare a day without reading the newspaper.
They should be aware about the editorial and be well versed with vocabulary. We will
get to know news from all the countries if we read newspapers regularly.
