Dear Residential Life at Fashion Insititute of Technology,

I have been an active and involved student during the three years I have been at the Fashion
Insititute of Technology, participating in any way possible, despite being remote from campus in the first
three semesters of the three years. I’m thrilled with the journey I have experienced thus far at FIT and
would love the opportunity to create fond memories for other FIT community members within the
residence halls. I am the ideal candidate to join Residential Life at FIT as a Resident Assitant (RA)
because of my skills and experience in many different parts of the FIT community.

Despite starting at FIT in Fall 2020, I prioritized connecting with my major cohort peers and
others of the larger FIT Spring 2024 cohort via social media. I also connected with upper-level students in
my associate's major, which led to my first leadership role as the Black Student Union (BSU) Secretary in
the spring of my first year. I’m thankful for the position, as it helped me realize the importance of a
well-written email and the necessity of communication at any level. As I moved into the role of President
of BSU, I faced new challenges that required me to learn on the go and adapt swiftly to the unknown. I
found great joy working with Austin Thomas from the Art and Design Gallery at FIT to create a virtual
student exhibition to celebrate Spring 2022 Black History Month, although I was 7,544 miles and 7 hours
ahead of New York City.

I want to champion every student at FIT in any way possible. Entering my junior year as Student
Government Association (SGA) Senator for FIT-ABLE allowed me to make accessibility a more
consistent conversation around the FIT campus. I’m proud of the organizational development of my
weekly office hours and town hall to bring discussions to the FIT community and meetings to resolve
students' concerns with Public Safety and Residential Life at FIT. I have found a great bond with others
residents thanks to my RAs Corina (Spring 2022) and Kayla (Fall 2022-Spring 2023). They made me feel
welcomed and wanted in the residence halls, and I’d love to bring that to others.

As an active Tiger of the FIT community whose roles have always connected back to uplifting
others, I’m optimistic that I would be a great addition to the Residential Life family. I would love to
discuss my abilities and ideas further in an interview with Residential Life at FIT.

Sincerely,

Natasha H Bwalya
