₹1,59,069 crore gross GST Key Points:

National Pension System Key Points:
(NPS) and Atal Pension  The number of subscribers under the National
Yojana (APY) Pension System (NPS) and Atal Pension Yojana
(APY) together have grown to more than 6.62
crore and the total Asset Under Management
(AUM) has reached Rs. 10 lakh crores (Rs.
10,00,000 crore).
 Pension Fund Regulatory and Development
Authority (PFRDA) annually celebrates
October 1st as “National Pension System
Diwas (NPS Diwas)”.
 The National Pension System (NPS) has been
implemented for all Government Employees
(except armed forces) joining Central Govt. on
or after 1st January 2004.
 NPS has been made available to every Indian
Citizen from 1st May 2009 on a voluntary
basis.
 Further, from 1st June 2015, the Atal
Pension Yojana, has been launched which has
given the much-required impetus to the social
security schemes.

International Aerospace Key Points:
Conference: Moving Towards  It is being jointly organised by the Ministry of
Inclusive Global Value Chains Civil Aviation and Confederation of Indian
Industry (CII) on 1st and 2nd September 2023
in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
 G20 initiative in the aerospace sector
 Aims to promote and strengthen trade and
investment among the G20 countries.
 India’s Civil Aviation Sector:
A) Development of Infrastructure:
Indian civil aviation sector had only 74
airports nine years ago; now it has moved to
148 airports including heliports and water
aerodromes.
B) Availability of aircrafts: Earlier there were
400 planes in 2014 now this number has
reached almost 700 and nearly 1000 more on
order;
C) Ecosystem Development: The huge orders
of aircraft placed by Air India and Indigo and
the emergence of new players like Akasha is
another example of the changes that are taking
place in Indian civil aviation industry;
D) Thrust on Regional Connectivity: UDAN
has given birth to 4 new regional airlines in the
country. The hub and connectivity network we
have been talking about for decades is a reality
in India today.

2. India showcases PM Gatishakti National
Masterplan at Asian Development Bank’s 2023
Regional Cooperation and Integration Conference
 The objective of the conference was to (i)
explore ways to integrate spatial
transformation/area-centric approach with the
ECD and strengthen regional cooperation
through a broader approach; and (ii)
Knowledge sharing on application of the
Economic Corridor Development (ECD)
framework and operational guidelines, onto
investable projects.
 Broadening the scope of their regional
cooperation programmes like South Asia
Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC),
by integrating area-centric growth models
on the lines of Gati Shakti approach, which
has evidenced benefits of bringing time and
cost savings to project planning, as well as
reducing carbon footprint of infra projects.

Key Points:
ASIATEX- 2023  ASIATEX- 2023 has been organized by
Hindustan Chamber of Commerce to
promote the growth of the textile industry .
 Union Minister Piyush Goyal informed that

machineries to artisans in a distribution
ceremony in Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) on
September 01, 2023, as a part of Gramodyog
Vikas Yojana
 Under his capable leadership, KVIC's products
achieved an unprecedented turnover of over
Rs.1.34 lakh crores in the previous fiscal
year, marking a historic milestone.
 During the fiscal year 2022-23, KVIC has
contributed significantly to employment
generation, by providing impressive total of
9,54,899 new job opportunities.
 ‘Khadi’ as a potent and successful instrument
for alleviating poverty, empowering artisans,
ensuring food security, promoting women's
empowerment, and addressing unemployment.
 KVIC is dedicatedly equipping artisans
engaged in traditional Indian village industries
with essential tools and machinery through
the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana. This strategic
initiative is significantly enhancing the quality
of life for these artisans by augmenting their
income levels.
 Up to this point, as part of the 'Kumhar
Sashaktikaran' initiative, over 25,000
electric-driven pottery wheels have been
disbursed to potters nationwide.
 As a result of these interventions, these skilled
artisans are now capable of generating a
monthly livelihood ranging from 25,000 to
35,000 rupees.

Jal Jeevan Mission Key Points:
 Number of tap water connections reach 13
crores from 3 crore in last 4 years
 As on date, 6 States namely Goa, Telangana,
Haryana, Gujarat, Punjab and Himachal
Pradesh) and 3 UTs - Puducherry, D&D and
D&NH and A&N Islands, have reported 100%
coverage.
 Goa, Haryana, Punjab, A&N Islands,
Puducherry, D&NH and D&D are ‘Har Ghar
Jal certified States/ UTs i.e., in these states/
2019 UTs, the villagers have confirmed through
Gram Sabhas that ‘all households and public
institutions’ in the village are getting adequate,
safe and regular supply of water.
 As many as 145 districts and 1,86,818
villages in the country have reported 100%
coverage.
 Uttar Pradesh has topped the progress chart in
the current FY by installing 61.05 lakh
Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC)
since January 2023.
 The relentless efforts of the Union and State
governments have also resulted in ensuring
the provision of tap water supply in 9.15 lakh
(88.73%) schools and 9.52 lakh (84.69%)
anganwadi centres in the country.
 In the 112 aspirational districts of our country,
at the time of the launch of the Mission, only
21.41 lakh (7.86%) households had access to
tap water which has now increased to 1.81
Crore (66.48%).
 More than 5.27 lakh Village Water &
Sanitation Committees (VWSC)/ Pani Samitis
have been constituted in the country and 5.12
lakh Village Action Plans (VAPs) have been
prepared including the plans for drinking
water source augmentation, greywater
treatment and its reuse, and regular O&M of
in-village water supply systems.
Malaviya Mission Key Points:

 Union Minister for Education and Skill


Development & Entrepreneurship Shri
Dharmendra Pradhan launched the Malaviya
Mission - Teachers Training Programme by
the University Grants Commission at
Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi.
 It aims to provide tailored training
programmes for teachers.
 This programme will work for the capacity
building of faculty members in higher
educational institutions.

 He also announced the renaming of Human
Resource Development Centres (HRDCs) as

 This programme will ensure continuous

capacities of 15 lakh teachers of HEIs through
111 Malaviya Mission centres across India in a
time-bound manner.
 The Programme is an endeavour to make our
educators future-ready with a deeper
understanding of Indian values.
 It aims to improve the quality of teachers’
training, build leadership skills in teachers
and help realise the goals of NEP.
 Capacity building under the Malaviya Mission
will be mapped to the credit framework to
ensure career progression pathways for
educators.

Coal Production Records an


increase of 12.85% in August
2023

 The Cumulative Coal Production (up to


August 2023) has seen quantum jump to
349.01MT (Provisional) in FY’ 23-24 as
compared to 316.27 MT during the same
period in FY’ 22-23 with a growth of 10.35%.

 The Cumulative Coal Dispatch (up to August


2023) has seen significant jump to 378.29
MT(Provisional) in FY’ 23-24 as compared to
346.72 MT during the corresponding period in
FY’ 22-23 with a growth of 9.10 %.
CBDT releases the fifth Key Points:
annual APA report  The Advance Pricing Agreement (APA)
programme of CBDT is one of its foremost
initiatives for promoting an investor-friendly
and non-adversarial tax regime in India
 The fifth report includes status of applications
filed till 31st March, 2023.
 In FY 2022-23, CBDT recorded the highest
ever APA signings in any financial year since
the launch of the APA programme, signing a
total of 95 APAs.
 CBDT also signed 32 Bilateral Advance
Pricing Agreements (BAPAs) in FY 2022-23
being the maximum number of BAPAs in any
financial year till date

 This figure is more than double the previous
signing record of 13 BAPAs in any financial
year.
 A record of the largest number of single day
signings in the history of the programme was
also created with a total of 21 APAs signed on
24th March, 2023.
 Additionally, signing of the 400th Unilateral
Advance Pricing Agreement (UAPA) and the
500th APA were also milestones achieved in
this year.

Rationalization of Coal Key Points:


Linkages  Ministry of Coal has initiated a policy
initiative called rationalization of Coal Linkages
to reduce the distance in transportation of coal
from Coal Mines to consumers.

fishers and fish farmers across the country.

Adopt a Heritage 2.0 Key Points:

 In order to sustain the rich cultural legacy, the
heritage sites require time to time

purpose , ASI launched “Adopt a Heritage
2.0” programme on 4th September 2023 at
Samvet Auditorium, IGNCA, New Delhi.
 In line with the vision of 'Virasat Bhi, Vikas
Bhi’.
 Adopt a Heritage 2.0' programme seeks to
foster collaboration with corporate
stakeholders through which they can
contribute to preservation of these
monuments for the next generations.
 Under this programme, ASI invites corporate
stakeholders to enhance the amenities at the
monuments by utilizing their CSR funds
 It clearly defines the amenities sought for
different monuments as per AMASR Act 1958
 A user-friendly mobile app, named ‘Indian
Heritage’ also launched, which will showcase
the heritage monuments of India.
 An e-permission portal, for obtaining
permission for photography, filming and
developmental projects on monuments was
also launched.
Pradhan Mantri Dakshata Aur Key Points:
Kushalata Sampanna Hitgrahi  The Pradhan Mantri Dakshata Aur Kushalata
(PM-DAKSH) Yojana Sampanna Hitgrahi (PM-DAKSH) Yojana, a
Central Sector Scheme, was launched during
2020-21.
 The main objective of the Scheme is to
enhance competency level of the target groups
to make them employable both in self-
employment and wage-employment for their
socio-economic development.
 The target group under this scheme are SCs,
OBCs, EBCs, DNTs Safai Karamcharis
including waste pickers etc.

 The age criterion of scheme between 18-45
years and income criteria is no income limit for
SCs, SafaiKaramcharis Including wastepicker
and DNT.
 The annual family income should be below
Rs.3 lakh for OBCs and the EBCs

family income below Rs.1 lakh.

for non-residential Short Term and Long Term
training courses.
 Wage compensation Rs.2500/- per candidate
is given to SCs/OBCs/EBCs/DNTs candidates
for Upskilling/Reskilling programme.
 Under the PM-Daksh Scheme target to train
during next three years will be 1,69,300
candidates from 2023-24 to 2025-26 with a
budgetary outlay of Rs.286.42 crore
 During last three years of implementation from
2020-21 to 2022-23, a total of 107156
beneficiaries have been trained and an
amount of Rs. 213.83 crore has been spent
under PM-DAKSH.

 In a span of 4 years, the number of Demat
accounts has increased by 2.5 times, from 4.1
crore in 2019-20 to 10 crore in 2022-23.
 A record number of Mutual Funds SIPs are
being registered, which helps to generate long-
term wealth, with the monthly flow in the
mutual fund industry through the route
reaching an all-me high of Rs 15,245 crore in
July 2023.
 Top 30 cities of India are usually expected
to be ahead in formal savings. However, in

the last four years, the share of Cities beyond
Top-30 cities in total mutual fund assets has
grown from 15% to 26%.
 Instruments like SIPs are only democratizing
this wealth-creation opportunity. Just like UPI
(Unified Payments Interface), democratized
payments and now ONDC (Open Network for
Digital Commerce) is poised to do for e-
commerce.
 Fin-techs are driving more inclusion and
creating their niche. Today in lending,
fintech have 36% share of new-to-credit
customers vs 22% share in banks. In
Payments, Fintech have 93% share of UPI
transaction value vs 7% share in banks.
 ITR data released in August signals
“Formalisation of the Indian Economy”.
There is now wider access to benefits like
credit facilities, and social security (pension,
insurance, etc). Each Tax bracket (Tax Slab)
has seen a minimum Threefold increase in tax
filings, some even achieving a nearly Four-fold
surge.
 While Maharashtra continues to be the leader,
other states are moving up with respect to ITR
filings. In places like North-East, Chhattisgarh,
even Jammu & Kashmir, the new ITR filings
have grown by double digits. This augurs well
for the Fintech Industry.
 As per a SBI Research, Per capita income is
expected to increase by 7.5 times from Rs 2
lakh in FY 2023 to Rs 14.9 lakh in FY 2047
(in USD terms, the corresponding increase
comes to ~$12,400 in FY47 from ~$2500 in
FY23).
 Our workforce is expected to increase by 19.5
crore to 72.5 crore in FY 2047 from 53 crore in
FY 2022-23.
 Workforce share in population will increase
from 37.9% in FY 2023 to 45% in FY 2047.
 Taxable Workforce /Workforce eligible to pay
taxes to rise to 85.3%, from the current 22.4%.
There would be approximately 48.2 crore IT
filers in FY 2047 from approximately 7 crore in
FY 2022-23. (Seven times more).
 As part of GFF 2023, the UIDAI also facilitated
an industry meet-up under the theme
“reimagine Aadhaar #together” with
executives of various fintech firms and
associated ecosystem partners, with the intent
to explore opportunities to collaborate, co-
innovate and enable wider adoption of

Viability Gap Funding for Key points:
development of Battery  Cabinet approves the Scheme titled Viability
Energy Storage Systems Gap Funding for development of Battery
(BESS) Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
 The approved scheme envisages development
of 4,000 MWh of BESS projects by 2030-31,
with a financial support of up to 40% of the
capital cost as budgetary support in the form
of Viability Gap Funding (VGF).
 Designed to harness the potential of renewable
energy sources such as solar and wind power,
the scheme aims to provide clean, reliable, and
affordable electricity to the citizens.
 The VGF for development of BESS Scheme,
with an initial outlay of Rs.9,400 crore,
including a budgetary support of Rs.3,760
crore, signifies the government's commitment
to sustainable energy solutions
 By offering VGF support, the scheme targets
achieving a Levelized Cost of Storage (LCoS)
ranging from Rs. 5.50-6.60 per kilowatt-hour
(kWh), making stored renewable energy a
viable option for managing peak power
demand across the country.
 The VGF shall be disbursed in five tranches
linked with the various stages of
implementation of BESS projects.
 To ensure that the benefits of the scheme
reach the consumers, a minimum of 85% of
the BESS project capacity will be made
available to Distribution Companies (Discoms).
 The selection of BESS developers for VGF
grants will be carried out through a
transparent competitive bidding process.
National Ayush Mission Key Points :

7. Livelihoods: DAY-NRLM promotes sustainable


agriculture, livestock and NTFPs in intensive blocks

works on Start Up Village Entrepreneurship
Programme (SVEP) that aims to support
entrepreneurs in rural areas to set up local
enterprises. Implemented since 2016-17,

Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA) Key Points:
 Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi along with
the leaders of Singapore, Bangladesh, Italy,
USA, Brazil, Argentina, Mauritius and UAE,
launched the Global Biofuel Alliance on 9
September 2023, on the sidelines of the G20
Summit in New Delhi.
 GBA is an India-led Initiative to develop an
alliance of Governments, International
organizations and Industry to facilitate
adoption of biofuels.
 The alliance will also act as a central
repository of knowledge and an expert hub.
 GBA aims to serve as a catalytic platform,
fostering global collaboration for the
advancement and widespread adoption of
biofuels.
 GBA will support worldwide development and
deployment of sustainable biofuels by offering
capacity-building exercises across the value
chain, technical support for national programs
and promoting policy lessons-sharing.
 It will facilitate mobilizing a virtual

 JAM Trinity has propelled financial inclusion

million by June 2022; women own 56 percent

International Cruise Terminal Key Points:
at Vishakhapatnam port  The International Cruise Terminal, now open for
operations, will serve as a pivotal gateway for both
domestic and international cruise tourism along
the eastern coast of India.
 This world-class facility promises to offer a
transformative experience to tourists while fostering

 The total approved project cost, as provided by
Vishakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT), amounted to ₹77
