Position Paper for the United Nations Security Council

I. Adaptation and Mitigation

Indonesia is deeply concerned about the estimated displacement of 216 million people within their country
by 2030 due to climate change according to the World Bank (WBG), report on the impacts of climate
change(2023). Indonesia is alarmed by the projected rising temperature to 1.5 C” which will result in fewer
than 10 million people being displaced due to rising sea levels, caused by climate change according to
the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Indonesia is also expecting that the yearly
coastal flood budget is projected to increase by 2-3 times by 2100 which is due to climate change
according to the IPCC project, Sea Level Rise and Implications for Low-Lying Islands, Coasts and
Communities(2019). Indonesia is deeply conscious of the fact that 70 % of deaths caused by natural
disasters are water-related according to (WBG) Water Resource Management (2022).indonesia is also
alarmed by

Indonesia highlights the fact that the Southeast Asia Network of Climate Change Offices(SEAN-CC)
(2009) aims to fulfill its commitment under the UN framework convention on climate change and
represents all climate offices in Southeast Asia.Indonesia's emphasis on the Southeast Asia Smart
Power Program (USAID) which helps in mitigation efforts and aims to have zero net greenhouse gas
emission region by 2050 with the help of low-carbon energy sectors.

Indonesia calls upon industries to implement the Southeast Asia Regional Program on Combating Marine
Plastics (SEA-MaP), reuse these plastics into various products, and extract chemicals that are useful from
them. Indonesia further encourages its member states to adopt the Fiji Recovery and Resilience Second
Development Policy Operation, which enhances climate and disaster resilience through cooperation with
various NGOs. Indonesia also recommends The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction
(UNDRR). To adopt the Kiribati Outer Islands Resilience and Adaptation Project which aims to strengthen
the climate resilience of communities living in islands.
