INTRODUCTION For long, it was the understanding that IT infrastructure meant the hardware and software, and if at all, the related network. Managing it meant procuring and installing them. The rapid pace of competition and growth compelled the organizations to do vertical thinking, and consequently the organizations built both forward and backward linkages to this core IT infrastructure. Today, the IT Infrastructure has been redefined and its meaning has been extended much beyond and before the procurement function. It starts from where it should the IT policy and strategy, the plan and the design of IT architecture, the business process of procurement, installation and management of h/w, s/w, n/w and other related equipments, tools and facilities, IT personnel and expertise, IT security arrangements and administration, application development, integration and management, vendor management . PROBLEM ANALYSIS An efficient IT Infrastructure Management is required due to increasing demands on the performance, capacity, availability, and agility of underlying IT infrastructure. Through this project an attempt is made to milestone efficient IT infrastructure practice that should be in some of big organizations. Convergent billing is a big IT project running in MTNL. It has taken as an immediate example to understand the concept and analysis of IT Infrastructure Management. OBJECTIVE This work shall primarily try to explain overall practice for IT Infrastructure management that are followed by various established Govt. and private organizations. Furthermore, as a real life reference IT Infrastructure management practices of M.T.N.L shall be considered. The Aim of the project is: Understanding the issues and challenges faced by the organizations w.r.t IT Infrastructure management Understand the best practices on IT Infrastructure management. METHODOLOGY: The knowledge and information shall be gathered from: Books available in various Library {including FMS}, Services offered by IT infrastructure management companies, INTERNET primarily Google Search, IT Infrastructure management Documents published on websites by various organizations SRS of Convergent billing project at M.T.N.L. BOM of Convergent Billing Project SCOPE: The Scope of the Project work shall be confined to IT infrastructure in telecom industry for processing huge customer data and telecom services. It shall be mainly a compilation of the best practices on IT Infrastructure management. It shall be comprehensive standards for maintaining IT Infrastructure in somewhat big organization. The project shall cover IT infrastructure management procedure of the organization but it shall as well enlist detailed IT roles for System Administrators, Data Base Administrators and Network Administrator, project leader, vendor. 2

Especially, IT Infrastructure management scenario of M.T.N.L shall be considered as a special case. The scope of the project shall as well include the suggestions for improving infrastructure management at MTNL. LIMITATIONS: 1. This project shall not be a research document for IT Infrastructure management at similar kind organizations. Even a proper care would be taken of ensuring best IT Infrastructure management practice among the best available alternatives. 2. It may not be possible to cover all possible IT Infrastructure management domain, because of continuous change in trend every day. 3. IT infrastructure management practice mainly depends upon size and scope of project in relation with size of organization. For the same reason it may not be possible to recommend the Solution for all small or big organization. 4.
