Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is an institution dedicated to research and innovation in Africa
and aims to position itself among world-renowned universities in its fields

The University is engaged in economic and human development and puts research and innovation
at the forefront of African development. A mechanism that enables it to consolidate Morocco's
frontline position in these fields, in a unique partnership-based approach and boost skills training
relevant for the future of Africa.

Located in the municipality of Benguerir, in the heart of the Green City, Mohammed VI Polytechnic
University aspires to leave its mark nationally, continentally, and globally.
Thin film materials are currently making significant advances into products in a variety of industries,
including automotive, aerospace, optics, and medical applications. These materials have
advantages over bulk materials because their properties such as hardness, friction, wear resistance
can may be finely controlled using cutting-edge thin film deposition and characterization processes.
This thesis work aims to design and develop carbide-based coatings with required chemical,
morphological, mechanical, and tribological protective qualities relevant to automotive, aeronautics,
and medical applications, utilizing physical vapor deposition (PVD) processes.

DUTIES:
• Review the literature and identify the state of the art
• Display initiative in identifying and resolving problems relating to the research topic
• Fulfil tasks required by the supervisors to accomplish the project’s objectives
• Synthesis and characterization of thin film materials using deposition techniques such as
physical and chemical vapor deposition
• Study the structural, morphological, and mechanical properties of materials using appropriate
techniques
• Perform tests to assess the performance of the deposited materials
• Prepare articles for publication in leading journals and contribute to research dissemination
at national/international conferences
• Communicate progress and results of research activities to the project team

REQUIRMENTS:
• Master’s in physics, materials science or equivalent
• Knowledge of solid-state materials physics and chemistry
• Good understanding of solid-state characterization techniques, such as XRD, SEM, AFM,
Raman spectroscopy, hardness and scratches tests
• Time management, and the ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
• Scientific curiosity, taking initiatives and teamwork
• Very good command of English and French both orally and in writing
