9 Demonstrates an ability to prepare and operate the sewage

treatment plant
My duty on this task is to prepare and operate the sewage treatment plant with
supervision and guidance of the third assistand enginner.

The vacuum is generated by operating ejector pump and circulating water through the
ejector. Vacuum switch control keep the vacuum. Vacuum switch is to be preset to
start the pump at 35KPa and stop the pump at 50KPa.

Usually in normal operation, pump 1 works as the vacuum pump and pump 2 works
as the discharge pump.

For creates the vacuum; number 1-2-3 must be open and 6-7 close. Pump 1 Motor
Control Switch is to be switched to be AUTO position. In the normal operating
conditions, the water level in the tank has to be above the low level switch because of
vacuum is generated by cırculating water which is filled inside the collected tank
through the ejector.

For discharging ; number 4-5 must be open and 6-7 close. For discharging the sewage
directly to the over board you must open SL006V(overboard valve) and close
SL005V(sewage treatment unit).

Sewage comes from the cabins toilets and hospital by operating Pump 1 Motor.
Pump1 Motor usually switched on AUTO position. Sewage is collected in Soil
Collect Tank.

The automatic discharge operation with is carried out either timer contolled and level
controlled. This both situation the Pump2 Motor is switched on AUTO position. For
timer control Discharge Mode Control switched on TIMER and for level control is
switched on LEVEL position.

At TIMER controlled discharge operation is carried out by a timer, which is in built

to the control equipment. Discharge starts which is adjusted and preset to 10 seconds.
After preset time, discharge stop.Pause time between discharging is adjusted and is
preset to 60 minutes.

At LEVEL controlled discharge operation is starts when the liquid level has reach the
high level switch and continues down to the low level switch.

Before operation transferring the sewage from to soil collect tank to sewage treatment
unit, ı checked the soil collect tank level gauge(SLO13V). İn that fact, ı made sure
that vacuum line valves (V1-V2-V3) and SL001V-SL002V-SL003V-SL004V are
opened.
Before manually discharge operation ı made sure that untreated sewage can only be
dumped outside 12 miles offshore, and treated disinfected waste outside 4 miles.

I opened the SL005V and SL007V closed SL006V and discharge mode control
switched to LEVEL position. I made sure that 4valve ( before discharge pump of
sewage treatment unit) is opened. Pump 1 motor control switched to MAN position
and discharging started.

I checked the number 8-7-6-10 how normally should be.( Normally open or
Normally close). İn drawing, it shows how they shoul be.

I checked the STILIZER that it has enough chlorine.And sewage treatmen plant
discharge pump started automatically.

After finished the discharging, ı switched pump2 to 0 position. I closed the SL005V
and opened the SL006V,
I connected the hose to FW-31V and FW-28V and filled the soil collect tank with
water. After level is reached near to the high level, again ı switched pump2 to MAN
position.

After tank water level down to low level position ı switched to pump2 to AUTO
position and discharge mode control switch to TIMER position.

After that ı washed to the 1st bio-filter packing media and 2nd bio-filter packing media
by using water hose which ı connected and used for filling the soil collect tank. I
washed every parts of sewage treatment unit carefully. Also in third assistand
enginners’s guidance, ı fiiled the cleaning water by opened valve 2 and 3 ( located
near to the blower). I filled the unit with water and discharged by discharge pump.
After the washing, ı closed number 2 and 3 valves.
