Title- A study on rehabilitation policies for affected women and children attributable to
disasters in the state of Gujarat
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This research study primarily aims to study the issue of lack of safety and sanitation facilities
for women and children in relief camps established post-disaster in the areas of the state of
Gujarat. Furthermore, this study also seeks to develop disaster techniques for women and
children to assist them in relief and rehabilitation from the issues brought about by disasters.
The adverse implications of the disasters are well-known globally. Its implications are more
so among the marginalised communities such as women and children and naturally so, as
their subjugation systematically does not put them in an equal position as men, i.e. as well-
equipped as men to deal with disasters. In this regard, the researchers seek to analyse the
existing framework of disaster techniques or mitigating strategies to deal with disasters in
order to find loopholes in the disaster techniques for women and children. A greater emphasis
would be made on understanding the existing mechanisms deployed by the Government of
Gujarat to rehabilitate disaster-affected women and children and, accordingly, subsequently
come up with a viable disaster strategy for them, so that they are able to protect themselves in
times of disasters in Gujarat.
To study and analyse the disaster management techniques in Gujarat for women and children
emphasizing majorly on the rehabilitation mechanisms deployed in the state of Gujarat for
women and children in rehabilitation camps formed post-disasters, and find their
shortcomings and thereby come up with new disaster techniques and mitigating strategies in
Gujarat, India and gauge their effectiveness.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS

state of Gujarat for women and children?
HYPOTHESIS

developed and hence requires improvement.
H2: It does not lay as much emphasis on developing disaster techniques for women and
children as is required.
H3: The women and children of the state of Gujarat themselves do not have involvement in
developing disaster techniques.
H4: A kind of conscious effort is required by the state of Gujarat and other stakeholders to
develop disaster techniques for women and children of the state of Gujarat and improve the
state of women and children in terms of their safety and sanitation in the relief camps
established post-disasters.
H5: An empirical study regarding disaster techniques shall be conducted in Gujarat to find
the loopholes in the current existing framework, and accordingly, disaster techniques for
women and children shall be incorporated into the framework.
