Opposition Whip
Topic: THW MANDATE ALL PRESIDENTIAL AND VICE-PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES TO.
PARTICIPATE IN THE COMELEC DEBATES
Introduction:
Hello and good day to our adjudicator. Sir Myrick, in particular. I'm Zoe Bongay, and I'm the
Opposition Whip for today's motion.
Themeline: THR to mandate all presidential and vice-presidential candidates to attend COMELEC
debates. The candidates need to directly communicate to the citizens in that way, they will be induced to
vote for the candidate. Thus, we believe that we should not mandate them in COMELEC debates.
Rebuttals: Alll presidential and vice-presidential candidates are not required to participate in the
COMELEC debates. The Leader of Opposition already stated that debate is not the only a way of
evaluating each candidate's ability, and also not the only way of provi
information about their own thoughts and political views. This statement implies that there are more ways
for the candidates to show their capability as a leader of our country. They can show their capabilities
through rally, caravan, and speaking to the public directly. Thus, we can see if they deserve the vote of
the people and to see if they are a worthy leader of our beloved country. The Leader of Opposition also
stated that the debate might be a way to point out negativity against the candidates. If debates can point
out negativity against them, then it must not be implemented because it only ruins the image of the
candidates.

Our deputy leader of opposition stated, “There is no other penalty available”. First of all, mandatory
participation in debates is kind of a minority situation. Alll over the world for the most part, debates are
voluntary for the candidates. Debates are voluntary for candidates which we can say that we need not to
force our candidates to join the Comelec debates, if we then force them, we are not abiding to law,
to the human rights no. 19, the candidates have freedom to express themselves, so it
is up to them to join the Comelec debates or not. By basing on this data, we can say that debate is purely
voluntary and not forced.
