PRESS RELEASE
October 19, 2023
Due to a break in the water main coming from the Water Treatment Plant the City of
Watertown has experienced a loss in water pressure. Please refrain from any
unnecessary water use until further notice. It is advised that you boil water before
consuming. See boil water instructions below.
Bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute, and cool before using. Or use
bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health. Boiled or
bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and
preparing food until further notice.
The quantity of water is now limited to what is in the reservoirs until the main is repaired. We
expect that will run out today. Some customers may already be affected by the lack of
pressure and volume.
Water Department crews are working as quickly as possible to fix the break and once
completed service will resume as normal.
Please share this information with other people who drink this water, especially anyone who
may not get this notice directly.
