DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF LOW-COST AUTOMATIC WASTE
COLLECTOR ROBOT IN WATERBODIES

According to the study in the natural water systems, the formation of algae and micro grasses are
formed everywhere in the water systems, the plastics and paper bags, plastic and tin bottles are thrown in
the water systems or carried to the water from the nearby places. To remove the algae and the unwanted
particles like tins, cans and plastic bags floating in water, this automated robot is designed and fabricated
using several components like aluminium arms and solar panel for producing energy from the sun and
motors for the movements in the water carried with electronic circuits for controlling the robot.
Experimental tests were carried out to test the robot for its purpose.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

From the past years till today the plastic carry bags, tins, and cans are in use all over the world.
Several efforts were also taken to reduce the use of plastic bags in shops and other places. Also, the
formation of algae and micro grasses on the top surface of the water pollutes the water in many aspects. The
disposal of wastes like used water bottles, tins are scattered towards the swimming pool, lakes, rivers, etc.
the formation of foam in many industries, and washing clothes in the rivers in the villages are resulting in a
serious environmental impact, leaves falling from the trees nearby the water systems during the season of
autumn may get struck in some places. This project might be helpful in many aspects. It also found that the
overgrowth of algae in the water bodies consumes oxygen and blocks sunlight from underwater plants.
When the algae eventually dies, the oxygen in the water is consumed. The lack of oxygen makes it
impossible for aquatic life to survive. Also, the plastic gets microscopically dissolved in the water, when the
aquatic organisms like fishes and other species might eat it, it may lead to harmful to the living creatures in
the water, while human taking those may lead to health impacts.

OBJECTIVES

1. To remove the pollutants from the water systems without any environmental impact
2. To remove natural algae in the water systems
3. To save the water systems from the formation of algae.
METHOD OF WORKING

The plastic bags, algae and micro grasses floating in the water are collected using this machine, when the
robot is turned on, the motor at behind starts rotating, it helps the small turbine to rotate which helps to move
the machine on the water. The collector drum at the front side with blade like rotating component, which is
used to collect the plastic bags and algae from the water, and then the particles are carried to the backside
where a storing component is provided, the collected particles from the front side is automatically transferred
to the storage. Based on the free float and less power required for movements, the power required is less and
we know that all water reservoirs are open to nature, solar power is very useful hence the power is received
from the sun and power is used, the collected substances are returned to the operator from the ground and it is
disposed. It will be very effective in the artificial bonds.

CONCLUSION

This project presents a robotic system for harvesting algae, collecting and removing the plastic bags and
unwanted contaminants floating on the water, in a pond or lake system. The great potential of algae for
biofuels and other consumer products will not be realized until an efficient harvesting method is developed. It
removes the unwanted particles like plastic bags and cans and tins are also removed from the water. To reduce
the power consumption, the solar panel is used. Hence, this robot is fully operated by the renewable energy
resource. Also, it is highly economic and eco-friendly and does not produce any harm to the environment.
