5. READING: THE TWINS

Read the text and answer the questions.

If you love magic, you’ll love The Twins. Their shows include tricks like

dangerous underwater escapes and making a helicopter appear on stage. But

one of the most unbelievable stories about them involves a six-year-old boy

called Anthony.

Anthony and his family saw The Twins’ show at Alton Towers theme park.

During the show, The Twins created a “snowstorm”. Anthony loved the trick.

Unfortunately, several days later, Anthony was badly injured in a car accident.

He went into a coma and everyone thought he wouldn’t survive.

Then Anthony’s big sister remembered how much Anthony loved the snow

illusion and she decided to recreate the trick. The family tore up little pieces

of paper and threw them in the air like snow, while they played The Twins’

snowstorm music. Unbelievably, it worked, and Anthony woke up. Anthony is

now a happy and healthy boy, practising for his future career – as an

illusionist!

6. GRAMMAR: SUBJECT / OBJECT QUESTIONS

Who cooks your lunch?

 Si hacen de complemento (object questions), el orden de la oración es el

de las interrogativas, lleva partícula interrogativa y el verbo va en forma base.

Who did you see in the kitchen?

Cuando el verbo rige una preposición, la preposición se pone al final de la

pregunta:

Who are you looking at?

Today, before Mr Davis leaves his office, he will open his portable computer
and log on to the website for his house. He will give his home computer
instructions to heat the oven and turn on the water heater. So when he
gets home, the oven will be warm and there will be hot water. Next, the
computer will connect him to digital cameras around the house. If he looks
into the children’s room, he will see them playing and watching TV. He won’t
have to worry about them. He can even tell his children at what time he
thinks he will be home. Mr Davis does this every day.

Is this just a fantasy? No, a British company has built the “Internet house”.
The owners can control the house from anywhere in the world through the
Internet. All they have to do is log on to the website for their house and
send instructions to the computer in their house. Now that’s useful
technology!
