Magnetomotive Force

1. What is the magneto motive force in a 75-turn coil of wire when there are 4A of current through
it?
Given:
I=4A, N=75
MMF = NI
MMF=75×4 = F = 300At
2. What will be the magnetomotive force in a coil having 250 turns and carrying a current of 10A?
Given:
N = 250 turns, I = 10 A
MMF = NI
MMF = NI = 250X10 = 2500At

3. Calculate the MMF required to produce a flux of 0.015Wb across an airgap 2.5mm long, having
an effective area of 200cm2
Given:
φ=0.0 .15 Wb, L = 2.5mm, A = 200cm2
L = 2.5 X 10-3m
A = 20 X 10-4m2
B = φ/A
B = 0.015/200x10-4 = 0.75T
B = μoH
H = B/ μo
H = 0.75 / 4π X 10-7 = 596831 A/m
MMF = HL = 596831 x 2.5 X 10-3 = 1492At

4. A magnetizing force of 8000A/m is applied to a circular magnetic circuit of mean diameter 30cm
by passing a current through a coil wound on the circuit. If the coil is uniformly wound around
the circuit and has 750turns, find the current in the coil.
Given:
H = 8000A/m, L = 30π X 10-2m, N = 750turns
H = NMMF/L > MMF = HL/N
MMF = (8000 x 30π X 10-2m)/750 = 10.05At

5. There is a 0.1A of current through a coil with 400 turns

Given:
I = 0.1, N = 400 turns
MMF = NI = 400(0.1) = 40At
