B. Name of Operation

(+) the addition; (―) the subtraction; (×) the multiplication; (:) the division

( p ) the square root of p; ( n m ) the nth root of m; (an ) a to the nth

C. Operation Result

(+) the sum; (―) the difference; (×) the product; (:) the quotient

D. How to use

We use a passive voice sentences. Because the subject of the sentence is number (as an
object). For addition we use “to” as a preposition, “by” for multiplication and division, “from”
for subtraction, and there is special order for subtraction.

Examples:
1. 8 + 5 =
If eight is added to five, then the sum is ….

9. [1 + 2] − {(3 ÷ 4) × 5} =
If three is divided by four and the quotient is multiplied by five and the product is
subtracted from the sum of one is added to two, then the difference is …

10. {(6 × 7) + 8} − (9 ÷ 2) =
