FIRST AID IN CASE OF ELECTRIC SHOCK

The Expire Air method of artificial respiration is recommended for use in any case of
electrical shock. It is comparatively simple and produces the best and quickest results
when correctly applied.

Start without delay but do not touch the victim until the circuit is broken.

1. Break the electrical circuit by switching OFF or, if not possible, PROTECT
YOURSELF with dry insulating material and pull the victim clear of the conductor.

2. Lay the patient on his back and, if on slope, have the stomach
slightly lower than the chest.

3. Make a brief inspection of the mouth and throat and ensure that
they are clear of obvious obstruction.

4. Give the patient’s head the maximum backwards tilt, so that

the chin is prominent, the mouth closed and the neck stretched to
give clear airway - fig. A.

5. Inhale, open your mouth wide, make an airtight seal over the
nose of the patient and blow. The operator’s cheek or the hand
supporting the chin can be used to seal the patient’s lips - Fig. B, or
if the nose is blocked, open the patient’s mouth using the hand
supporting the chin; open your mouth wide and make an airtight seal
over his mouth and blow - Fig. C. This may also be used as an
alternative to the mouth to nose technique provided that the nose is
held closed.

6. After blowing, turn your head to watch for chest movement,

whilst inhaling deeply in readiness for blowing again - Fig. D.

7. If the chest does not rise, check that the patient’s mouth and
throat are free of obstruction and the head is tilted backward as far
as possible. Ensure that the tongue is not blocking the throat. Blow
again.

Send for medical assistance if possible.

1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND TECHNICAL

SPECIFICATIONS
The unit consists of a Localizer receiver, a Glide Path receiver, a microprocessor unit,
digital and analogue displays, keyboard and a rechargeable battery, together with
Localizer and Glide Path antennas and a collapsible mast. 40 channel frequencies are
available; the corresponding Glide Path frequencies are automatically selected in
accordance with the ICAO Annex 10 table.

The microprocessor unit performs an FFT-routine on the detected ILS signal and
calculates the depth of modulation of each ILS tone, DDM, SDM and RF level.
VOICE/IDENT modulation depth is analogue processed and read by the microprocessor
unit. The results are displayed digitally on a 32-character LCD display and on an analogue
meter. After "Power-on", DDM SDM and RF level are displayed simultaneously and the
meter displays RF level such that the user is quickly informed on the strength of the
signal under evaluation.

The primary parameters DDM, SDM and RF level can be displayed on the analogue meter,
with a choice from four pre-programmed sensitivity ranges at each parameter selected
from the keyboard.

Also battery status can be called from the keyboard. Display-warnings "UNDERRANGE"
and "OVERDRIVE" input signal are automatically displayed on the LCD during such
conditions.

Three analogue output channels are provided for external connections to recorders etc.
These can be connected to DDM, SDM, RF LEVEL and VOICE/IDENT at various sensitivity
ranges selected from the keyboard.

1.3 METHOD OF USING THE INSTRUMENT

NOTE: After change of LLZ/GP mode, turn instrument off/on to ensure correct operation.

Description of operating modes

Standard Mode:

Output to LCD and AUX is presented as a mean value of 6 consecutive measurements.

Integrated Average Mode:

Output to LCD and AUX is presented as the mean value of all measurements taken from
the starting of the mode.

No Average Mode:

Output to LCD and AUX is presented as "raw" data, i.e. 3 parameter calculations per
second.

1.3.1 Normal Operation

Standard Mode: This mode is automatically selected after power-on.

For measurement on a stationary signal (e.g. at an established position in the field)
Integrated Average Mode can be used. This mode is started by pressing "0". By pressing
"0" once more, the instrument reverts to Standard Mode. To show that the Integrated
Average Mode is in use the LCD displays the text "INTEGRATED AVERAGE" every five
seconds.

If "0" is pressed only once, the instrument reverts to Standard Mode after approximately
45 seconds.

If a fast signal response time is required (i.e. during vehicle course recordings) No
Average Mode can be used. This mode is started by pressing "1".

By pressing "1" once more, the instrument reverts to Standard Mode. To show that the
No Average Mode is in use the LCD displays "NO AVERAGE" every five seconds.

• Set the correct frequency channel and select the LLZ/GP switch.

• Switch the power ON. The firmware implemented is displayed for 5 seconds.

• The battery voltage is monitored. If the voltage is below a pre-set limit (11.5V) the
LCD will flash BATTERY LOW. The battery voltage can be read on the LCD by pressing
BATT". The analogue meter will also indicate the voltage, the midscale is 12V and the
range is +/-2V.

• The measured values for DDM, SDM and RF LEVEL are displayed on the liquid crystal
display (LCD). The parameters are always displayed with maximum resolution. On the
analogue meter the RF signal level is indicated. If the level is outside the specified
dynamic range, the LCD will show RF UNDERRANGE or RF OVERDRIVE.

A negative DDM indicates a 90 Hz predominant signal.

• Press "MOD 90" of "MOD 150" to the 90 Hz and 150 Hz depth of modulation on the
LCD. The parameter corresponding to the key will be shown on the analogue meter.
The range is 40% for Localizer and 80% for Glide Path.

• Press "IDENT" to read the VOICE/IDENT depth of modulation on the LCD and the
analogue meter. The range on the meter is 0-100%.

• Press "LIGHT" to switch on the LCD light. *) The light will be on for 30 seconds only
to reduce power consumption. To switch off the light before 30 seconds, press
"LIGHT" once more.

*) The "LIGHT" function is optional.

1.3.2 Analogue indications

Sometimes it is more convenient to use the analogue meter to study the changing of one
of the parameter values. The DDM and SDM can be displayed with four different pre-set
ranges. In addition, the user can change the ranges.

• The parameter to be displayed and range are selected by pressing "DDM", "SDM" or
"RF" and one of the following "RANGE 1", "RANGE 2", "RANGE 3", "RANGE 4". The
different factory pre-set ranges are given in Table 1-1 and 1-2.

• The analogue meter will show the measured value of the parameter with the midscale
(nominal) value and range as indicated on the LCD. The LCD will also indicate the
measured value, and should be used as the most accurate reading.

• Press "CLEAR" to return to the standard parameter displays (DDM and SDM).

• Press "ENTER" to read the signal parameter display last used.

• The range of the analogue meter for DDM and SDM can be changed by the following
procedure:

• Press "SET" and "DDM" or "SDM" and select the range number by pressing one of
"RANGE 1" to "RANGE 4".

• Type in the midscale (nominal) value of the analogue meter using the numeric
buttons and the "." and "-". Press "ENTER" to terminate.

• Type in the range of the analogue meter using the numeric buttons and the "." ("-" is
ignored). Press "ENTER" to terminate. To keep the previous range, press "ENTER"
without using the numeric buttons.

• To an invalid entry, press "CLEAR". Repeat the sequence. Numbers greater than
99.99 are barred from entry.
