ASSIGNMENT 1
Abstract:
Social Cognitive Theory started as Social Learning Theory in the 1960 by Albert
Bandura. It developed into social cognitive theory in 1986 and states that learning
occur in a social context with a dynamic and reciprocal interaction of a
person, environment and behavior. In this paper, we will dig in to Bandura’s Cognitive
Theory and discuss its implications across various domains, including social sciences,
education and psychology.
1. Introduction:
The study of human behavior has been the main focus in psychology since time
immemorial and Bandura’s cognitive theory has contributed much in us
understanding this phenomenon. The theory departs from traditional behaviorism and
rather suggests that human behavior is determined solely by internal drives or external
reinforcement but is dynamic interplay of cognitive, behavioral and environmental
factors.
This paper aims to thoroughly explore the theory including practical applications, key
concepts and its influence on different aspects of human life.
2. Historical context:
A. Background and Influence: Understanding the historical context and influence that
shaped Bandura’s Theory.
Self regulation
Controlling one self through monitoring, goal setting, self reward, enlistment of social
support and feedback. Discusses how individual can regulate their own emotion,
behavior and thoughts.
Reciprocal Determinism
Examining the dynamic interaction between behavioral, personal and environmental
factors and how they mutually influence one another.
Collective efficiency
Brings together people and mobilize them to action. Develops group activities that
help individuals to get to know each other and increase confidence to accomplish the
desired change.
4. Practical application
Conclusion:
Bandura’s social cognitive theory focuses on human behavior, that is, by enhancing
interactive relationships between cognitive process.
