Subject:
Mathematics

Common Core Standard(s):

3.NBT.A.1 "Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100"

Objective(s): At the end of this lesson my students will be able to… demonstrate their ability
to round to the nearest hundred.

Resources/Materials List:
 “Rounding to the Nearest Hundred” coloring page/worksheet.
 Markers, crayons, or colored pencils in the following colors: blue, grey, tan, green,
purple, and brown.

Procedure: Includes but is not limited to: focus, review, modeling, guiding questions, guided
practice, and independent practice. This can be a detailed, bulleted list.
1. Review how to round to the nearest hundred.
2. Pass out the worksheets.
3. Model an example of how to do one of the sections on the coloring worksheet.
4. Have children take out the necessary coloring materials.
5. Allow children to independently do the worksheet, assisting where needed.
6. Collect the worksheets to check them and make sure they are done correctly.

Plans for differentiation: Address the individual needs of students based on performance
levels. This can also be a list describing the way you will match the instruction and
instructional tasks to low or high performers. List the student’s name and a sentence
describing the plan.
 If a student finishes quickly, they can use the double digit multiplication cards to
practice their multiplication facts.
 If a student needs extra time, they will be given time to catch up on unfinished work
during morning work time first thing the following day.
Assessment: How do you know the student met your objective? This can be a rubric, a
checklist, or a statement.
 I will know students have met my objective by looking at their completed worksheet
and assessing if it is done correctly or to the best of the students abilities.

Plans for accommodation/modification: Describe any needed accommodations (changes in

teaching method or materials), modifications (changes in learning objectives), or modified
assessments needed to meet student IEP goals, objectives, or behavior plans here. Provide the
student’s name, a reference to the related IEP objective (e.g., Goal 3, Objective 2), and a
description of the accommodation/modification.
 Work in small groups with students that may need more assistance.
 Highlight the key in the appropriate colors for students that may struggle with color
recognition or association.
