LITERACY AND NUMERACY REFLECTION

As the department’s mandate to strengthen literacy and numeracy for school children,
it is really heartwarming how did this mandate affects me as a teacher in this
institution. Coming from two years blended learning shifting to this year’s face-to-face
classes, the struggle is real. The grade 2-Mayapis of this school year are hardworking
and eager pupils but they are being challenge to be literate and numerate.

Due to some reasons, some of the pupils can’t even identify alphabets and numbers.
For this reason, I did my best, work even harder and patiently helping these struggling
learners develop their numeracy and literacy skills. By this, I came to realized that not
the amount or scale of lessons being taught in a day really matters, but what matters
most is how you magnify your calling as a teacher to this young generation. It is really
hard, going back to zero and move forward with hope and determination. All efforts
from day 1 are all worth it. Seeing those learners who struggled for quarters able to lift
their mouth and able to read and being numerates. Now, on the last two quarters of
the school year, their fear to learn changed to eagerness and confidence. Truly, if we
focused ourselves in basics (literacy and numeracy), pupils will be more enthusiastic
and ready to learn other subjects.

With all of this lesson I learned for this school year, I am looking forward to do my best
for these coming years of my teaching career.

OBJ 9 Selected, developed, organized and used appropriate teaching and

learning resources, including ICT, to address learning goals. (PPST 4.5.2)
REFLECTION

The success of the lesson relies on how you execute plans and choose appropriate
resources that will help the learners connect to the real-life scenarios. To attain this,
teaching on the 21st century learners, the integration of ICT to lessons is really needed.

The progress of traditional board and paper teaching strategy to the use of ICT
multimedia resources brought a lot of success. Resources coming from DepEd portals
and other educational material providers are really of great help, specifically it eases
the burden of preparing instructional materials during lessons. I usually use
multimedia ICT instructions in lessons that require visuals, and it is indeed an
effective way of helping the learners understand more and get a glimpse of what you
are trying to teach them.

As I reflect on this, using appropriate teaching and learning resources including ICT is
really helpful this 21st century classroom settings.
OBJ 10. Designed, selected, organized and used diagnostic, formative and
summative assessment strategies consistent with curriculum requirements.
(PPST 5.1.2) REFLECTION

In order to help learners in their academics, feedbacking is essential. Through reliable

and valid assessment, pupils’ ability can be measured. Thus, reliable feedbacks are
also evident. I came to realized that in order to provide a valid and reliable feedbacks,
proper use of formative and summative assessments is essential.

I was able to see the importance of assessment to help pupils progress in this
educational ladder. I was able to account myself on how to be more effective teacher to
my pupils. We assess not only to test how far our learners have understood the lesson
but we assess to determine how effective our instruction is in teaching thus we can
improve our teaching skills and strategies through assessment.
