ELT 336: Poetry Writing Activity 1

I. COUPLET

My heart, a canvas, paints his image bright,

A masterpiece, a symbol of my delight.

In his embrace, my soul finds sweet repose,

And all my doubts and fears just decompose.

His love, a poem, adorns my days and nights,

Stanzas rich with meaning, wrapped in delights.

Each word a beat that pulses in my chest,

A love sonnet that never puts me to rest.
II. TERCET

In the depths of an achiever's eyes,

Lies a fear that's often disguised,
As a stepping stone to one’s success

A disgrace in fortune to the path of light,

That dims one’s perspective
And leaves them wandering in the pale moonlight

The fear of failure, inevitable it may

Let it spark the trigger
Of becoming a successor someday
III. QUATRAIN

Of all the maladies that can assail,

The ones that lurk within the mind prevail.

The heart may ache, the body suffer pain,

But mental wounds can leave a lasting stain.

Anxiety, depression, voices in the head,

Demons that haunt us when we go to bed.

Dark thoughts that threaten to misunderstand

and halt the strength to ask for a helping hand

It takes strength to ask for help,

To reach out to someone when you've felt,

So let's break the stigma, lift the veil,

And make it easier to tell our tale.
