General Safety Rules

1. Always inform the production supervisor and lineman before starting to

work in the production line machineries at the time of an emergency
breakdown/plant shutdown.

2. Always ensure that the power supply to the particular zone where work
needs to be done is switched off before commencing the work.

3. After repair testing shall be done only under the supervision of the shift
engineers and safety stewards.

4. All works that involves combustible gases/fuels shall be only done by

authorized personnel and strictly under the supervision of your immediate
superior.

5. The zones that come under the client scope and contractor scope of
Combustible gas distribution systems are to be clearly identified and
strictly adhered to without fail.

6. All heavy materials shall be handled with proper lifting tools or other
machineries and not by-hand.

7. Proper welding attire, helmet and gloves shall be used during welding
works at site/workshop.

8. Use of hazardous chemicals shall be done by authorized workers and

under supervision of immediate superior only.

9. All workers working at a height of above 3 mtrs should wear a safety belt.

10. Ensure proper ventilation and frequent switching of workers while

working in confined space.

11. Make sure that all machineries have effective safety guards before starting
to operate.

4
E-logbook EGN 3806 Work Placement II

12. After operation and switching off the power do not leave the machine until all
rotating/moving parts have been stopped to avoid any danger to co-workers.

13. Do not operate any machines unless authorized to do so by

your immediate superior.

14. Do not try to stop any moving/rotating parts in any other means apart from
the mentioned in the operations manual.

15. Immediately report any damage/abnormal sound or electrical problems

and do not use until it has been rectified.

16. While working in a group only one person should operate the machinery
to avoid any danger due to poor coordination.

17. During hot works and while operating machineries avoid loose talks and
irrelevant discussions to ensure all workers are fully alert about the ongoing job.

18. Never use compressed air to clean your clothes or your body since it can
cause serious injuries.

Cont…
19. Never use bare hands to feed any material to a circular saw or
bandsaw machine, always use the OEM recommended tools.

20. Always inspect the cables/wires before usage to ensure there are no
damages to the insulation.

21. Never tape down the safety switch of any equipment for any reason.

22. Always ensure proper lighting is present while working in confined space
and also during night shift.

Clothing & Safety Equipments:

5

1. Always use proper PPE in relation to the kind of work you are doing.

2. Avoid wearing jewelry/watches and loose clothing that can get caught up in
moving/rotating parts for self-protection.

House Keeping:
1. Keep the workshop floor always clean and tidy to avoid any danger by
tripping or slipping of yourself and your coworkers.

2. All emergency exits and hallways should be free of machineries/tools or

any obstacles facilitating ease of commuting at the time of an emergency.

3. Storage of all materials/tools above height of 2 mtr shall be done in a safe

manner to ensure no loose objects are present that can fall and cause injury.

4. Assign proper methods to dispose waste and scrap material.

After lubrication ensure that any excess oil/grease is not present on the lubricating
point as well as its vicinity to avoid any kind of accidents to self and coworkers.

Department: ELECTRICAL ENGINEER Date: 8\11\2020

Details: Use this form to complete a daily record of activities

On Sunday we met our advisor in meeting room. Eng. Rav told us about different
companies that produce switchgear such as Shredder Electric, ABB, and Hager Group.
The difference between these companies is in the safety margin. Then, he illustrated
the load calculation based on the shredder method, which takes the following factors
into consideration

• Phase cross-sectional area

• Neutral cross-sectional area

• Thermal heat loss

• Derating factor (Unburied/ Buried cables)

• The material of the conductor (Aluminum used in transmission lines

or applications where the resistance is critical)

We divided this day in two parts.

Part I

We did meeting as a group in meeting room with Eng. Rav. He gave us some books to read.
Moreover, he mentioned that the utility is the primary transformer which has high voltage
and the MDB is the final utility which has low voltage.

Part II

We went to the factory and visited the maintenance room, we saw the generator.

How Do Generators Create Electricity?

As we know generators don’t produce electricity. They transform mechanical or chemical

energy into electrical energy instead. They do this by absorbing the power of motion and
converting it into an electrical circuit into electrical energy by forcing electrons from the
external source.

Department: ELECTRICAL ENGINEER Date: 10\11\2020

Location: FUJAIRAH ROCK WOOL FACTORY Day number: 3

We met Eng. Rav and he illustrated the following

¿
 total derating factor and its equation ( Iz= K )
 current carrying capacity ( 𝑆𝑝ℎ>𝑆𝑁) ,(𝑆𝑝ℎ=2𝑆𝑁)
 starting current of a motor
 as the voltage exceeds the assigned limit, the cable size should be larger

Then we completed 2 hours in the factory, it was interested we learned new information. Our
advisor started as introduction about motor. He told us there works 3 days on it. There are some
break parts in machine. We saw how there are solve this issue. The motor shows the contently is ok
but when they put it in line star the motor not rotate. We thought that the coil is show contently. The
in flashing between coils there are 3 coils which will be 3 phase dc motor. How we solved this
problem? We did megger test.

After that we saw the thermocouple, it measures the humidity and temperature as shown below

We visited again to maintenance room and saw industrial motor as shown below. We used clamp
meter to check resistance between ends of coils for single and three phases. It should be no less than
1000 ohms. If it is less it will be leakage. We did phases test and got 1000 ohms. It means all phases
are good.

An
example of
single
phase =
1000 ohms
