Introduction
The Purpose of the Guide
The material in this guide has been produced to provide BT’s marketing and
sales operations with information on the low lifter MINIMOVER.
The Product Planning and Market Support department at BT Products
bears responsibility for the content. Information and Training Services bears
responsibility for the production and translation of the material in the Sales
Manual.
Design
The Italian product design company, Pininfarina, made a concept study of
MINIMOWER at the beginning of 2000. On the basis of some specific con-
ditions they worked through the design and colour scheme of the truck.
The ensuing result was Concept Starfish, which was officially shown at
CeMAT 2000 in Hannover and was extremely well received. The concept has
since been modified a little within the project group and this resulted in what
is now known as the low lifter MINIMOVER.
Product Description
BT is certified according to the environment standard ISO 14001 and trucks
are developed and manufactured according to the environment management
system for BT Products AB. See further in Appendix A.
Competitors
The main competitor to MINIMOVER is without doubt Jungheinrich’s Swift
EME 12, which was introduced at CeMAT 2000 in Hannover. The Swift
looks and is identified as a motorised hand pallet truck, mainly due to its
compact design. Competitors are discussed in more detail in chapter 8.
Application Environment/
Customer Groups
Typical Application Areas
MINIMOVER is a truck with an extremely large field of application. It can
be used in the same way as a hand pallet truck, except where capacities over
1300 kg are required.
It is intended for use as a complement to hand pallet trucks, but also in
upgrading situations when a W18 from the Orion range is considered to be
too large. The truck is designed for low intensity materials handling situa-
tions, i.e. where the need of a truck is less than two hours of continuous use
per day. However, it is not intended for use on ramps.
Typical application areas can be:
• In the stock room of a medium-sized store and for distribution from the
stock room out into a large store.
• In stores with bulky and heavy goods that are difficult to move using a
hand pallet truck.
• To load and unload from tailgate lifts.
• In environments where the floor is not dimensioned for heavy trucks.
• As a tool for people with attritional injuries to the arms, shoulders or
hands.
A comparison carried out during field trials between hand pallet truck users
and MINIMOVER users showed that those using a MINIMOVER could
work at a higher pace without feeling tired and weary.
Product Description
MINIMOVER is a small electric low lifter that has been designed to fit in the
product gap between hand pallet trucks and the W18, which is the smallest
truck in the Orion range.
It is designed to suit users that wish to:
• have a complement to the hand pallet truck or to upgrade from a hand
pallet truck.
• needs a truck for only two hours of continuous operation per day, which
approximately corresponds to an eight-hour day for an average user.
• to prevent musculo-skeletal injury with manual handling of heavy loads.
MINIMOVER is a compact and powerful truck that can carry loads up to
1300 kg. The outside dimensions are small, the chassis width is 700 mm,
truck length 420 mm and the truck height is 685 mm. It is extremely stable
as it is designed with swivel castors. The batteries, which are 2 x 12 V and
50 Ah, are maintenance free. The truck is not designed for driving on ramps.
It is, however, designed for use on tailgate lifts and can drive up onto a lift
that has an incline of less than 10%.
Typical Customers
A potential MINIMOVER customer currently uses a hand pallet truck to
move pallets.
Customers can, for example, be:

x-measurement
The x-measurement is the distance from the back of the forks to the centre of
the fork wheels. The measurement can normally be obtained from the Prod-
uct Information Sheet. The x-measurement on the Product Information Sheet
is stated for a fork length of 1150 mm with the forks raised.

Dx
The X-measurement differs depending on whether the forks are raised or lowered
l-measurement
The l-measurement is the overall fork length.
l2-measurement
l2-measurement is the length of the truck including the back of the forks.
u-measurement
The distance between the tip of the forks and the pivot point for the fork
wheels is called the u-measurement.
T-measurement
The measurement from the back of the forks to the wheel fork pivot point is
called the T-measurement. This can be calculated using the formula:
T=l–u
The T- and u-measurements are important with long-side handling of pallets.
Incorrect u- and T-measurements can result in the fork wheels damaging the
pallet when the forks are raised.

b5-measurment
The b5-measurement is defined as the width across the forks. This must
accommodate the pallets to be handled by the truck.

Characteristics and
Advantages
The following section is a summary of important points to be shown and
emphasised when demonstrating the MINIMOVER for a customer. The sec-
tion is concluded with a checklist that can be used when a demonstration is
planned.
Chassis
Characteristics Advantage
Narrow chassis, b1=700 mm Narrower than an Euro pallet, results in lighter, faster and safer
handling. Easy to manoeuvre a small truck.
Short truck length, l2=420 mm Takes up little space when stored, e.g. onboard a truck.
Very good manoeuvrability in confined areas, e.g. onboard a truck.
Narrow forks, e=156 mm Easier access from the side of the pallet.
Fork markings It is extremely easy to see how far the fork tips can be inserted into
the pallet without them sticking out of the other end, when long side
handling of Euro pallets promotes safe handling.
Document pocket Keep papers, picking lists and the like in order.
Compartment on top the hoods Ideal for storing pens keys and the like.
Designed with gently rounded Modern, attractive appearance without sharp corners.
covers.
Lifting height h3=205 mm High lifting height in order to handle all types of load carriers.
Visibility
Characteristics Advantage
Low truck height Good visibility results in safe handling. Even short drivers can see
the fork tips from over the truck.
Variable transistor control Gentle driving characteristics give safer handling of all loads.
Reduced speed with a loaded truck Safer handling, e.g. inside stores where people are in circulation.
Electric brake when the tiller arm is The parking brake is quickly applied when required or when the
in its vertical or horizontal positions tiller arm is released.
Automatic speed reduction The speed is reduced as soon as the travel direction selector is
released and returns to the neutral position. Reduced wear on the
drive wheel and brakes
Emergency stop Easily accessible on the electrical panel. Used in emergencies and
to prevent accidents.
Safety switch “belly button” No risk of being crushed behind the truck, it drives quickly in the
direction of the forks when the switch is activated. The truck stops
as soon as the switch is released.
Lift and lowering button Placed central on top of the tiller arm
Travel direction selector Can be easily operated with either your right or left hand.
Safety switch “belly button” Prevents the driver from being crushed behind the truck
Battery
Characteristics Advantage
Batteries Low weight batteries that are maintenance free.
Integrated charger The integrated charger means that charging can take place via a
standard wall socket.
Twin function LED shows the battery Easy to interpret as a flashing LED indicates “charging truck”
status and a lit LED means the truck will run a crawling speed
and will soon come to a standstill.
Crawling speed at low battery Work can be completed, as the lifting function is not blocked.
capacity
Service
Characteristics Advantage
Accessibility for service The electrical panel is easy to remove making all electronic
components easily accessible.

• What will be the primary field of application for the truck?
• Why do you give a demonstration?
Who?
• Who will you give the demonstration to?
• What is this person especially interested in?
• What expectations, problems, etc. does the customer have?
• What questions will be asked?
Where?
• Where will the truck be demonstrated?
How?
• How will the demonstration be fashioned?
• Is the quality of the floor where the demonstration will be held good?
• What advantage does this truck have compared with models from our
competitors?
Future strategy
• When the demonstration has been summarised and evaluated with the
customer, the salesperson and customer should agree on a follow-up visit.
If the truck is left for onsite testing you should book an appropriate time
for a follow-up visit.
Charging Instructions
1) Remove the plug from the truck’s start block.
2) Pull out the spiral cable and connect the plug to a 230V wall socket. The
charging process starts and continues fully automatically.
3) When the main charge is in progress, only a yellow LED is lit on the
charger. The LED on the charger can be seen through the hole for the
main cable on the truck’s electrical panel.
4) When the main charge is complete, a yellow and green LED is lit on the
charger. This indicates maintenance charging and equalizing charging.
5) When the truck is to be used, return the spiral cable and reconnected the
plug in the truck’s start block.
Competitor Product
Comparison
Jungheinrich’s EME12 or Swift, which it is also called, is considered to be
the main competitor to MINIMOVER. Swift is marketed as an alternative to
the hand pallet truck and Jungheinrich seems to be concentrating on truck
drivers and user groups that need a powered option to the hand pallet truck.
Here follows a clear table of comparison between Swift and MINIMOVER.
Laboratory Comparison
During tests carried out on a Swift by the Prototype and Test lab department
at BTP the following emerged that is worth noting:
• The truck could be driven without the plug from the charger being
inserted in the start block. This means that the truck can accidentaly be
driven while still plugged in.
• The truck could still be driven despite the tiller arm being in the lowest
position. It is most likely an incorrectly fitted switch.
